the BREADWINNER of the family... Posted on 03-31-2005
La

Can you still feel like a man if you married a woman who made more money than you, or if you married a career woman who didnt make as much as you from the beginning, but climbed up the ladder of opportunity, got several promotions throughout the years and is now making more than you...and you are still making the same amount when yall first married.Would you be okay with it?? As men would you be comfortable with your wife being the breadwinner in the household???

Me, personally, I think I would feel sort of weird making more than my man. I'm old-fashioned and I think the man should be head of household and that includes making more than me. I also like the feeling of a "manly, man". Most men, admittedly or not, feel like punks if their woman is making more than them(unless they are a **** or something) and I don't want something so small like that, cause a big rift in our relationship. In reality it does. I mean, some situations you just control and where his path leads and where my path leads, cause you really can't say "oh can you make my pay higher cause I want my man to make more than me" but like demmeri said, he might have to up his game a lil.
lol...smh...WOW.
lol If i make more money than him, there would be nothing i could do about. If there is a problem on his side...thats his problem not mine. I will not fit into a box just to try and please people.

This brings up women's lib & Black women. What is woman's lib to us when we've always been either equal or, most of the time, made more than our men for years. We've also been working ever since Black women arrived in this country. So what is women's lib to us?

^^see thats the problem right there.a lot of women like to say that if a dude doesnt feel like hes a man because shes making more than him or anything else similar to that, then hey he has to deal with it.but when a woman doesnt feel like shes being the woman that shes supposed to be, then we cant say f**k it and just move on. now i dont htink i would have a huge problem with my wife making the most money so long as i have my own job and im making some bread of my own.but if she is making more money shes gotta be payin some bills as well.
What does making money have to do with anything?!?! The problem actually lies with the people and their mindset. If i just so happen to make more than my husband, i will expect for him to deal with it. :x What other choice will he have?!?!? I'd actually respect a man much more if he isnt so prideful about something as simple as a job or money. Is that truely what the marriage will be about??? Competition??? If so, i won't waste my time with finding a husband.

Actually, all feminist don't believe in the same things. Some think that every woman have the right to choose but most disagree. The list of disagreements goes on....I know because i've read up on them.

I personally don't like the mindset that salary=status. I think that the primary goal should be to ensure that our family lives comfortably. As long as that's being done, who cares which partner makes more? If I make less per year than my wife, why should that diminish my status within my household? Are my kids going to say "daddy wears ****"....? No. In most cases, people don't have the same profession as their spouse, so they're not going to make the same amount of money, and I don't think it matters who makes more than the other. An example of why I think salary shouldn't equal status is the fact that there are professions in this country which are drastically under/overpaid. If I'm an elementary school teacher and my wife is a lawyer for a tobacco corporation, should my concern be that she's making more than I am?

^I wish we could have that mentality, but in reality, it's an issue in relationships.
