HBCU or Ivy? Posted on 04-05-2005

I've always wanted to go to Howard University because I have family in DC, I love the atmosphere, and I basically believe the school is top notch. I've been accepted and I've received a nice financial aid packet. However, I was just recently accepted into a prestigious (white) university that my peers and educators expect me to attend because of the name. Certain individuals feel that I would be making the wrong choice if I choose the HBCU while others feel the opposite. Most tell me to follow my heart but I still don't know which is the right choice. I need to know what someone else would do if they were in my situation. What would matter the most? If you had the opportunity to go to an "Ivy" type school, could/would you choose the HBCU or the Ivy? How would you choose? Signed Need To Choose

Wait....Ivy League or "Ivy Type" I love Morehouse with all my Heart and Student Loans, but let me get the chance to go to Yale or Harvard or U of Chicago, I guaren-damn-tee you MY BLACK **** would be gone! If you have a chance to go to an Ivy league school, GOOOOOOO!!!!!! Because there are alot of WHITE folx who can't get to where you are going. Take the opportunity and RUN!!! (I hope you already did)

OK IM LATE but...This sounds like the same exact situation that I dealt with b4 entering college I was accepted to Howard as well as Cornell University (Ivy) with a scholarship 2 both. It was a difficult choice at first and I spoke 2 many people from both schools. I chose Howard and I have no regrets. I mainly liked the fact that every 1 at HU that I spoke 2 was welcoming and spoke highly of HU. I figured that I could go 2 school and truly enjoy my undergrade experience and then go to an Ivy for law school. I have no regrets what so ever. After all... Howard IS the black Harvard! Hit me up on the PM if u wanna talk about it
