how would you use your college degree to help imrpove the black community?
welp, i plan on being an urban planner/civil engineer.....so here goes...
my plan would be to get rid of the black comunity.....whoops...i mean get rid of the ghettos...
i would work out a way to give poor blacks a better quality of life by getting rid of ghettos and giving an opprotunity to attend good schools and enjoy suburban life...then i'd turn the ghetto into an entertainment district where black people make money off of whites comming from the suburbs to spend thier money...then i'd destroy all of the public housing and build expensive condos where i charge white buisness mega bucks to live in the city close to everything...
poor people of any race do not do well when they are clustered together....look at the idian reservations out west, the barrios out west, the poor rural white areas of the south, appalachia! it doesn't matter what skin color you are, poor people clsutered together just don't do well period...
so as a future urban planner, i'm going to help pass laws that gives tax breaks to apartment communities that reserve at least 10% of thier units for low income families...that way, low income families can move out into new developements out in the suburbs instead of being clustered in one place...they will attend nice schools, be away from crime, and just have a better quality of life period...i don't believe that anyone should not be able to live in a safe area with good schools just because of thier income...
then, we can turn the inner city into like a night hot spot...clubs, returants, gym clubs, payless outlets...botiques....stuff that white people like...kinda what they got going here in columbia...this place called 5 points...i guess it was a former slum located next to an industrial area, and now it's full of shops and clubs...white people come from the suburbs into this once destitute area to spend thier money on weekends...the only thing i'm mad about is that alot of the stuff isn't black owned...i would try to encourage blacks to OWN the new buisnesses...that way blacks make money in thier formerly impoverished area instead of it seeming that the crackers kicked all the n!ggers out and found a way for the area to prosper...
yeha then the condos come in... 8-) (nessa)
Well, being that I want to further my degree in film, I'd show that not all African Americans in entertainment are on dat b u l l s h i t...Like some of my heros:

I would open a bakery or a nice sit-dwon restaurant on the South Side of Chicago..somewhere other than Hyde Park and Beverly.
I would aim somewhere on Stony Island or in the Chatam Avalon -Chesterfield community, or maybe Bronzeville

well, i'd use my journalism broadcast skills to spread a good word, and start foundations like Tom Joyner and Russ Parr for positive and uplifting things (scholarships, trips, meet the stars, etc.) even if i move on to do sports in TV... i'll still be active in my community at home, community on campus, and whereever i'll be located (hopefully DFW b/c that's a growing area for journalists)
As far as I'm concerned, black people have gotten enough leg-ups and it's someone elses turn now.
I would fight for better Immigration laws and fight against unlawful labor (you know, that labor that runs the country, that labor force...called the Mexican population). They need more help than African-Americans, seeing as how most African-American problems are damn near self-inflicted. And if you think a black ghetto is terrible, I would love to say what you think a Mexican one is.

It would probably be best for me to remain a member of the National Society of Black Engineers. Within a few years, I want to do the following:
I would establish a scholarship contest, and award potential college-bound students who have an interest for engineering or other technical programs.
Also, I would like to organize a career fair by gathering several colleges/universities (particularly HBCUs) and engineering-related companies into one setting.
Furthermore, I would provide funds for my high school and come up with other ways to strengthen its magnet program.
I'm glad this topic was brought up, because I probably would've never thought about these things until now.

I want to get a teaching certificate and teach underprivilidged inner-city kids and work my way up to eaching at an HBCU. I also want to major in Communiactions and start a magazine for black teens or create a television forum on BET geared toward minority teens and their issues.
Well, I wil use my degree to help the downtrodden, the forsaken, and the forgotten. I will become active in my community and rid it of apathy and ****.
I wanna be rich, makin money working for the NFL...this is kinda long but it's an excerpt of my Hampton application essay:
"I want to establish scholarships and a non-profit arts center for students and families in Cleveland. I also want to give back to the college I will attend, to a student who will follow me in the pursuit of higher education and a better life for themselves and their families.
I want to establish a non-profit arts center in the neighborhood that I grew up in. The non-profit arts center will provide dance classes, dance parties, vocal and instrumental music lessons, and fine arts classes, among other services. I also want to establish scholarships for Cleveland Municipal School District students. Recipients of these scholarships would automatically receive summer jobs to help pay for college tuition and other travel and personal expenses related to college. Many students coming from the school district I come from do not have the money to pursue post-secondary education. I want to help as many people as I can to rise above the poverty level and make a better life for themselves and their families. I want to serve as an inspiration to other kids and say, “ If I came from the Cleveland Schools and I made my dreams come true, then you can make it happen, too.”
