like i told yall before, the state of florida got rid of affirmative action for college, and the number of minorities in college has actually increased since jeb did it...but i do believe in the government making sure that fair highering practices are going on...i know some cats won't hired you because you're black...
demmeri, ummm, isn't that kind of like affirmative action? :???: *affirmative action- A policy or a program that seeks to redress past discrimination through active measures to ensure equal opportunity, as in education and employment. soooo, yes. I do beleive that we still need affirmative action. We always will. You are making it seem like this program is just getting a bunch of black folk who aren't as good as white folk better jobs, but in reality, it's getting a bunch of us who are equally as good as white folk jobs that we would not have gotten because of prejudice and racism...
precisely...

^No... Affirmative Action was forced to be implemented because of prejudice White folks, plain and simple.
i mean but do we still need affirmative action to get into colleg these days? you're gonna tell me that if we take it away, ain't no blacks going to no college? i just think that we need something to nmake sure that fair highering in the workplace is going on, that's all...and i ain't talking bout no bumping me ahead of no better-qualified white cat either 8-) (nesssa)
Lesser qualified whites were and still are hired over qualified Blacks. That's the reasoning for affirmative action. Not the other way around.

but dude, i'm talkin' bout getting rid of the part of affirmative action that lets less qualified balcks jump ahead of more qualified whites...i just think it's unfair and it's just a hand out...i just think the government should make sure that buisnesses are hiring fairly...EX some white company rejecting 100 qualified blacks , company has an all white staff....ect ect....i mean us forcing our way into buisnesses and colleges when we're not qualified just seems unfair to me and i think this crap causes a backlash man...what do we need this **** to get into colleg or a good school?? i mean so is it safe for me to assume that every black guy in a buisness suit got there because of affirmative action? watch, the next time i'm walking downtown and i see a black guy in a three piece, i'm gonhna shake his hand and go "ah yes...affirmative action?" <

I actually agree with Demmeri on this. Yes, there is racism in the world but we as black people cannot DEPEND on AA to get jobs and/or get in college. I still would rather get somewhere because of my skills rather than because I am black. If they dont accept me because of my race then that means that I don't need to be working there in the first place.

with my 1130 sat score and 3.24 gpa, i could have had scholarships to several different schools in the state of florida, and i consider myslef adverage as heck...dude, i didn't need any bit of affirmative action to get where was goin (had i chose that path)...i don't think affirmative action is needed in college period...you don't qualify, you dont qualify, case closed>> 8-) (nessa)

It's not about being qualified, it's about people not being accepted or hired because of their race. Qualifications don't matter to these people. Of course if your grades or SAT is looking right you wouldn't need Affimative action. You need it when the place where you trying to be accepted or hired doesn't care about any of that and has ignorant, prejudice people.

But that doesnt mean we should DEPEND on Affirmative action. Like I said, if the company or college doesnt accept you because of race then maybe thats not a place you need to be at

:???: what? I'm sorry. I am not to proud to take a good job through affirmative action. If I am qualified, what is the problem?I think you and demmeri are getting the idea all wrong. Like I said before, affirmative action is not getting less qualified blacks better jobs, it's getting those qualified blacks who would not have gotten these jobs before hired.
