|*Orange Moon*|

If your school has offered to help students, post it here. I guess this could serve as some type of central list. Bowie State University to Offer Assistance to Students and Faculty Affected by **** Katrina Bowie, Maryland – Bowie State University President, Dr. Calvin W. Lowe, announced today that the university will join in the relief efforts with other universities to help ts affected by **** Katrina. Students from Maryland and/or the District of Columbia who are currently enrolled at Xavier University or Dillard University will be allowed to attend Bowie State University for the 2005 fall semester at no additional cost. “Bowie State will accommodate these students in every way possible to ensure that there is no interruption in their academic programs,” said Dr. Lowe. “This natural disaster has presented a terrible loss and the BSU community understands the need to work together during a time like this.” Additionally, during this transitional period, Bowie State is willing to assist Xavier and Dillard faculty who have academic interests in alignment with those of our institution. For more information, contact the Office of the Provost at (301) 860-3460.

North Carolina A&T State University faculty, staff and students are gearing up to help the victims of **** Katrina. “More than 30 of our students and 148 alumni and their families have been affected by this major disaster,” said A&T Chancellor James C. Renick. “We will be doing all we can to help them and others in need through AGGIES CARE, our N.C. A&T **** Katrina Relief Fund.” A&T Provost Carolyn Meyers adds, “There are no quick fixes or overnight solutions for these victims. They need ongoing support and we are planning to offer our assistance on a long-term basis.” AGGIES CARE will focus on three areas: students, disaster victims, and faculty, staff and alumni. Financial assistance and counseling services for A&T students affected by the disaster will be provided. Students enrolled in higher education institutions in the affected areas who wish to enroll at A&T may call A&T Admissions Office (as soon as possible), at (336) 334-7946 or go to www.ncat.edu/admissions.html. Throughout the year (three times each semester), the entire Aggie family will be asked to donate supplies. The AGGIES CARE-a-van will deliver the supplies to Southern University. A&T ROTC units will coordinate the collections; and ROTC units at Southern University will manage the distribution of the items to the nearby disaster areas. On the first Friday of each month, Aggies (on and off campus) will be asked to give up the cost of a soft drink, juice or water and donate at least $1 to the AGGIES CARE Fund. The first Friday of each month (exceptions: September and January) will be “Dollars for Katrina Day” in Aggieland. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to all faculty and staff who have loved ones in the affected areas,” said David Hoard, vice chancellor of development and university relations. On Thursday, Sept. 18, the university will collect bottled water at the Bryan Fitness and Wellness Center, next to Aggie Stadium. The N.C. A&T University Foundation will be accepting contributions for A&T students with financial needs who were affected directly by **** Katrina. Contributions will be accepted at Aggie Suites – Suite 171, or mailed to P.O. Box 20366, Greensboro, N.C. 27411 call 256-0380 or 256-0381. All credit cards are accepted. If you have questions, information or feedback for AGGIE CARE, please email wecare@ncat.edu. The AGGIES CARE project is being spearheaded by Dr. Janice Brewington and Akua Matherson along with a diverse group of A&T students, faculty and staff.

My college, Virginia State University, is supposed to take in students from Dilliard, Xavier, etc. But the only problem would be the fact that they don't have the space to house students, therefore they're going to put them in a Best Western Hotel that's 15 minutes from campus. Now my question is, how can my college take in students when we don't have the means to accomodate them? What about people who don't have a car to get to/from campus? *smh*

I know FAMU is accepting displaced students. My Constitutional Law professor introduced a new student from New Orleans to my class. He was a transfer from Xavier.

Virginia Commonwealth University (Richmond, VA) is accepting students affected by the ****. This is part of the statement that was sent out to all VCU students about this situation from the president of the school: "Office of Undergraduate Admissions has expedited application processing by minimizing documentation requirements. The Office of Financial Aid is prepared to facilitate processing for aid, including implementation of some special exceptions on eligibility just released by the Department of Education, and the Office of Student Accounting will delay billing and create appropriate payment plans based on individual circumstances, and administer waivers of at least the non-resident tuition and fee differential. The Registrar's Office will expedite application of transfer credits for student classification purposes (which affects student loan eligibility). University Housing has been actively identifying available space for these students. Academic advisors within the college and schools will assist the students in course enrollment to ensure compatibility with the requirements of their home institutions." The school is accepting students-waivering tuition-and providing housing. If you need more information you can go to www.vcu.edu or you can call the admissions office at ( 8 0 4)841-3638. Hoped this helped anyone. :-)
