Religion is the **** of the masses--Karl Marx Posted on 02-02-2008

"Religion is the **** of the masses"--Karl Marx. My unfortunate Sociology professor mentioned it in a discussion during class. It got pretty heated. But after all the hubbub died down, it got me to thinking: does religion make us who we are, or is it the other way around? What do you think? (Even though I'm a Socialist and people say that's a step towards Communism, I still think Marx was just an emo before his time. This little adage further proves my point.:splat

Um...isn't Yeshua a Jewish term? The one for Joshua? Anywho, if Yahweh, the higher power that I'm sure you're referring to, really loved me, he would let me find my own way to him and not tell me that doing said action would ensure me a place in an everlasting pit of fire. That's REAL love. Besides, it's not like I was a non-believer straight out. I am a former Christian. But I wasn't a Christian on my own terms. I was a Christian for other people, which didn't seem right to me. And since I saw no reason to remain a Christian, since I didn't believe in the Trinity and Jesus dying on the cross for my sins and coming back to life (which sounds like something straight out of a sci-fi flick) I left. And please don't pray for me, I'm sure you mean well and all, but the way you're doing it makes me feel there is something wrong with me. I don't like that feeling. I am not going back to Christianity. So don't bother to pray that I will. Thank you.

Every knee shall not bow and every tongue will not confess that Yahshua is Lord, 1) because he isn't and 2) millions of knees have been degraded and decomposed, so I'm afraid that that's impossible. Sowwie.

I just get offended when people say "every knee will bow" because I feel like they're trying to enslave me to their diety; their overt self-righteousness is very irritating.

Yeah, but you have to remember this is what most Christians believe. Getting angry about it all and saying comments like that isn't going to change much of their beliefs. In fact, I believe it would insinuate that you needed that higher power in your life more than anything. With religion (esp. Christianity), you have to try to, for the most part, be objective, so others will try to understand your point as to why you don't follow their religious doctrine. Heck, trust and believe I know where you're coming from. I just got told I was being prayed for to come back to Christianity. That's really something offensive in my opinion, but I kindly declined. Getting all riled up is a serious waste of emotion, because at the end of the day, it's just someone else's beliefs against mine.

^^^ I strongly agree with you in that last sentence....thats all of what it is difference in beliefs....Ive realized yes you can introduce people to your beliefs but you cant force them to agree with you. Its a good and a bad thing...good because the world in my opinion would be boring without diversity especially in beliefs....bad because it can get annoying to constantly hear the same disagreements over and over again...but its gravy...I hope nobody's blood pressure went up over this discussion lol BTW Pie I wasnt targeting you in my post but basically wondering why Christianity like always was the center of the discussion not neccesarily being Targeted.. I apologize if it came of that way. Heres 1 or 2 for fun what about Daoism and Wicca (sp) I dont have much education on them...does neone know how they operate and what are their views if there is actually a god or what is their main belief???

Which honestly brings us back to the topic of this post...to make an opinion right now, would to be speaking on the effect that religion has on your life.

PRAISE THE LORD!!! God is letting you find your own way and he does love you. He loves us all. He loved us enough to send his son to die for us. It's good that you realized that you weren't a Christian for yourself, because it never last that way. You have to come to Christ for yourself and that's the only way that you will become a true believer. When you don't want to believe things it's easy to find excuses to back up your non-belief. As far as the prayer part, there are more than one type of prayer. Some people are trying to make you feel better by telling you that they are praying for you and you don't want to accept that. That's cool. Seeing as to you were once in church and you do know the bible, if I was to pray for you it would be the prayer of the Prodigal Son. I would pray that the Lord sends you to the pig pens...Does that make you feel better??? :-)

PRAISE THE LORD!!! Don't misinterpret the scriptures...You don't have to be alive for this to come to pass!!! The bible says that every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess, and that is the truth. If you don't do it while you are alive, then on that great day of judgment you better believe it will happen then!!!
