Lakers update Posted on 06-19-2004

Phil Jackson left the Lakers Friday night after a meeting with owner Jerry Buss, Shaq wants to be traded...but that leaves Kobe "off-target" Bryant and a few other kinks that needs to be ironed out.... Kobe opted out of his contract, and will be an unrestricted free agent July 1st. Now the word on the street is, the Lakers will offer him a 7 year $140 million contract. A contract that cannot be matched or beat by any other team in the league. But how will they pay Kobe that much $$$ with Shaq on the same team? They wont. Shaq is now demanding a trade. He's always said that if he can't play for Phil, he wont play with the Lakers at all, and now he wants out. O'Neal is also unhappy with the direction in which ownership is headed. But what about Payton? Rumor has it that G.P. is willing to stay with the Lakers, now that Phil Jackson and that God-awful excuse for a triangle offense is gone, Gary Payton may remain a Laker. G.P. has gone on record saying that he did not like the triangle offense (greed maybe?). Now that its gone, he may stay. Only time will tell.

Yeh its official Shaq's gone...and the Lakers management are some damn fools... How can you let Phil Jackson Go??? Maybe Im a lil partial to Phil because I am fron Chicago..and the mail reason we started winning is because of Phil and the triangle offense... I always bring this up in any argument i have about the Lakers...The only reason the Lakers ever started winning the way they did is because of Phil and that damn offense. Phil had the Lakers winning they first championship HIS first year there...come on now...they made it to the championship/won it 4 out of 5 years I believe ( correct me if im wrong) Im glad the Lakers are being dismantled like this...well..now i realize that I actually didnt hate the Lakers..it was just Kobe **** i dont like..Now i can get a Shaq jerzy and be happy about it... Oh yeh u better believe the Heat coming to the finals this year...

They actually won 3 out of 5 championships, but that still is a good percentage. I used to like Kobe, but his cocky attitude got in the way. Phi is gone, Shaq is gone...damn those two are important factors. I can't wait to see the Lakers new roster. Oh and yes, the Heat will be in the Finals. I agree with that.

Yeah, the "Heat" will definately be bringing some heat in the upcoming season. I don't know if they'll take it all the way tho. As far as the Lakers go...i think this is gonna be a crazy season. I think they would have been much better off trying to keep Fish over Payton, but maybe that's just me. He's a much better team player, and he's efficient when ya need him to be. Payton will just build the hell out of a team's foul count  .

My bad about the other thread, anyways I feel ya Kenya..but now its Kobe's team. No one else is going to matter. Payton stayed on the Lakers with hopes of getting a ring, but he will notice his mistake in the long run. He should have went to another team....well, I don't think another team wanted him...so he probably had no choice, but to stay. Does anyone know what Malone is going to do? I read somewhere that he was thinking of joinin Shaq in Miami, but I dont think that's correct.

the Heat had to unload a few players just to get Shaq's mammoth salary... they ain't pickin up nobody big... and Malone has drawn interest from the Spurs... i ain't heard anything about the Heat having any interest
