The process of getting a DRIVER'S LICENSE... Posted on 08-04-2004
La

Me and Jeremy somehow got into a discussion of driving and getting a license. Somewhere in the conversation we discuss what it took for us t get a license. Then he says in Illinois it is mandatory that all h.s. students take drivers ed in their school cause its a graduation requirement, and they have to have a yellow card, then a permit, then they can get a license...I never heard of a yellow card cause we dont do those here in Connecticut. Anyhow, I didnt realize how DIFFERENT it was in all state's it is to go about learning how to drive and get a license...This is how it works here in my home state... Driver's Ed ( OPTIONAL ) I went tho, and it cost $400. We dont have drivers ed in all high schools in Connecticut, and my high school happened to be a school that didnt have drivers ed...so I went to Sears. Plus that stupid Sears driving book cost $25. Permit testing..It cost $10  When you are under 18 and have had your permit for so many months, then you can make an appointment to take ur drivers test. Making an appointment cost ANOTHER $40...and then when you go to make an appointment..it aint like u can take it nexrt week or sumthin...You have to wait months in advance...Like I made my appointment in a May and couldnt take the test until that following July...I guess cause there are so many people tryin to get licenses their appointments book months ahead. The actual day of the drivers test arrives. If you successfully complete your exam is cost $77 for the license...They claim its this much cause it doesnt expire for 7 years, unlike older license that use to expire in 4 years... So after its all said and done I spent a total of $552 just to eventually get a license. I really coulda did without the drivers ed...Cause not only was that sh*t boring as hell...but my daddy taught me how to drive honestly...Those few lessons I had from the Sears instructors didnt do much. But that is ridiculous after you calculate all the costs...But Im just wondering..how does it work in every state?

in Flawda I think it goes like this: Most schools have Driver's Ed and it's free....at least the school i went to was. you take the driving and written test in the class,if you pass you get the papers for your permit..(and that covers the requirements) if you're under 18 you have to wait 1 year before you can get your license...
That's how it is here in North Carolina. Both a learner's permit and a license is the same price. ($10)
yeah, purtee much... & they have something called a Graduated License system... & it's like the 1st 6 months of ya permit, u can only drive w/ a parent/guardian & no later than 9pm (unless you're coming from a school-related event)...next 6 months, w/out a parent/guardian, but still not pass 9pm (i think)...then u go to get your full license (gotta be at least 16; @ least 15 for the permit)...take a driving test @ the dmv...plus a sign test, i believe...& es todo! oh, & if u're under 18, they have on ya license "Under 18"...that's why after ya turn 18, ya don't HAVE 2 if it's not expired, but ya might wanna go switch it up so they'll take that off...but then they put "Under 21"

\i didn't even have to take a road test just an eye exam and got my license...so happy cause i still cant' parallel park...
I have never heard of not having to take a road test for ur license...It figures why so many people out here with licenses cant drive.. ( no offense to you )

Damn....I would have been blown..esp. since I failed my first road test. Well it was on a course...but I would have been mad if I had to wait months.
Taking ur the driver exam on a course? Never heard of that either. I figure it would be a lot easier than taking it on a real street, cause only car you need to worry about is yours since there are no other cars on a course...( unless there are, and I may be wrong ) Well so far..it seems that Connecticut is the most expensive state to get a license in....smh...thats a damn shame i had to pay $77 for a freakin license, and some people only had to pay 4 measley dollars...WTF!?!?!

well for me it cost me I think 70 to 100 dollars, The drivers ed was available in sju for seniors(required) so we all took it,so when I was 17 and a junior I took it. As part of passing the license was given skipped the permit part, so at 17 i had my license. The road test that was reuqired to get the license involved us driving on the highway between queens and bk(we bordered bk) and parking on a street near sju. It was tight, I got stuck behind a garbage truck during my test lol....but once it was gone I was all good tho my parallel parking was so-so but I didnt care i was 17 with my own license lol....dont know how it is now...

4 years ago when I first moved to Miami the rule was at 15, you get your permit and after 6months you can get your license...I was 14 going on 15 thinking ok i can take the class, get my permit and it 6 months, ill have my license..but nooo..the bastids wanna change it to a YEAR :x so I had to wait even Longer to get my license!!

It cost me $25. I did the home driver's ed in and got my permit in Texas (5$). Waited a couple of years cause my parents were trippin (insurance issues) and got my license($20 expires in 7 years verses $24/6 years in TX) in Fl (15-30 min driving test in Tally)
