I'M NOT BLACK!!!! Posted on 11-17-2004
Urban.Panther

im not sure if there had been a post about this b4 since im fairly new, but how do u feel about people who have haitian, jamaican, belizean, dominican, or whatever ancestry who appear to look black but hate it when people refer to them as such? is that such a bad thing? personally im imparital because i understand both sides of the argument. this girl i knew looked straight black but she was really of mixed ancestry. so whenever someone referred to her as black she made a big hoopla about how she is belizean and nigerian and she is not black. is it our fault that we cant tell your race by the way you look? should we start off random conversation nowadays by saying: "hi my name is ominy and im black and native american. whats your name and what are you?" is the issue of race really as taboo as it seems? what do u guys think?

My friends and I always seem to talk about this very issue alot. I come from a mixed background my mother is Cuban, African American, and Native American my father is African American and Irish. You can just guess what I look like! Alot of people say that I look "Asian and Black" cuz I have "cat eyes." I don't get all upset, I know that some people are not as educated as myself.

Thanks WileE. That's what I was trying to say...
Based on my skin colour I'm white... :?

I always got mad at that, where i am from ( bermuda) we all claim black; however those who are on the island who can pass for white consider themseleves as such, from my perspective i look black its just that my features and my hair texture is a little different then those of African-Americans here because of my portugesse heritage, i am not knocking the other races that compromise of my own, but i still say the black gene is dominant and when America see dark skin they automaticly say black regardless to hair texture and whatever you say.. and to respond to your question Hi, i am Daya I am Portugesse, Black and Coolie
