The Bible! Posted on 02-22-2005
CPL Thunderstruck

Does anyone else here believe that the Bible is hilarious? God smited people for skeeting on the ground, King David **** some guy so he could bone his wife and one guy rapes his sister and desecrates her. You can't get more vile in a book! THIS BOOK IS AWESOME. So, this I made this post for religious debates because I am considerably bored and Christianity is the easiest to pick on since it's so broken. Who here studies...and I mean STUDIED...the bible? Thunder

Did you even read it? The point of the thread is to discuss Christianity, through facts and interpretation. If you say that the Bible is to tell us how to live our daily lives, back it up by all means! It is not my intention to change minds, simply just to see how well this opinion holds amongst Christians, and how far I could go arguing in its validity. I stated something incorrectly earlier, I cannot "prove" Jesus wasn't real, but I can bring forth facts which can indicate so. Religion is a tough topic because there is nothing tangible other than the scriptures of others that we can touch on. All we have are scriptures...and more scriptures...and more of em. So in deciphering what remains true becomes a task of what seems to be consistant. And amongst the 4 biggest religions, Christianity seems to have the most gaps by a ridiculous amount. Oh, and I know it is inevitable, someone WILL say it sooner or later. Ok, I'm from southern Italy. Please locate Vatican City. Do a search on the **** Sea Scrolls. Those things put a hurt on the Christian faith, why else would they opt to have them literally hidden from view? Bed Time. Controversy is my specialty  ! Thunder

I know that's right sista! People want to discredit Chrisitanity and not Christians. Christianity is what is and if Christians don't follow Christianity accurately or are hypocrital at times, that doesn't mean Christianity is backwards. But luckily I can be a hypocrite or do wrong and still have a loving, forgiving God. Critisize CHRISTIANS not the Christian faith.

For clarification, a lot of yall think that a perfect Christian is perfect and does no wrong. A Christian isn't going to be perfect and God doesn't expect us to be. When you are a Christian, that's when you do the most wrong cause the devil is really getting at you because you are for Christ. Some people need to actually read the Bible and reseach before making judgements on something they know little about. That's like me discussng the subject of a novel that I haven't read; I would look ignorant and obvious that I haven't read it.

He's more critical of the text of the faith and/or the history of the faith; which is well documented. One must wonder, if it is this easy to punch holes in Christianity from whether or not Christ exists, to why Jews don't believe the Messiah has come, to the startling similaraties between the Christ story and other ancient stories; then are we truly getting the WHOLE story? Or even the RIGHT story for that matter. The King James BIBLE presents God as a misogynist. How many women sit well with that? Is that correct? Yes, the King James BIBLE is a great text, historically, poetically, and metaphorically. But one has to wonder if the full truth is being told.

Exactly. Thank you for taking the time to read it. Apparently you guys are thinking that I for some reason hate Christianity. No, I don't. Nor am I attacking it...I'm just connecting all the pieces together and simply churning our what was given to me. If the above post is all I get out of this entire thread in which someone was actually thought-provoked...it's worth all the flak I'm going to get! Thunder

Thunder, I'd already arrived at my conclusions before considering your opinions. However, you did present an argument I'd never heard before. I research, and seek the truth; usually by combining things to arrive at an ultimate truth. In mathematics, we call that a proof. And I always loved geometry.

I must concur............ I am for Christ and I be TRYIN to do right, but like Paul said "evil is ever around me" so it's HARD for me to do the right thing ALL the time............ like, I do a LOT right, but i do MORE wrong......... and daily i try to correct that............... but u see, the difference between us and thunder is we walk by faith and not y sight...... this is very important if you're going to be ANYTHING (christian, muslim, hindu) for all you know, EVERYONE could be lying........ now, tru, there are some books missing from the Bible, and they find a few more every once in a while.......... and if u read te Bible.............. it all fits when u get the next few books............ Mary M...... had her own book.......... my mom is in the course of reading it now............. and, i don't "poke fun" at the Bible, ecause I've been thru TOO MUCH, where it has been my ONLY safety, the ONLY thing keeping me from not opening up a can of whoop ****, or driving my car off a cliff............. and while I am NOT the "model" christian every1 wants me to be.......... I believe in the Bible, and all it stands for....... because to this DAY................... it holds true to everything that has been promised to me....... so, don't believe it if u want to, but don't criticize something u NEVER gave 100%

Oh I agree completely. . but I do believe that the King James version falls within that sight (reading) category.

Well I wasn't referring to him persay, but while we are were on the subject I wanted to get that out. A lot of Christian naysayers don't realize their views are because of the people who follow the religion and not the religion itself. For some reason, Christianity has become a joke to some people, whether it be media or messageboards and I don't know about anyone else, but I find it totally disrespectful. I don't hear people disrespectng Judiasm or Hinduism as much. To me it's the same feeling as when someone doubts me because of my race. ***I'm not referring the author of this post, keep your crunk level to a minimum; it's just a general comment while we were on the subject.
