Can HBCUs Prepare U Better 4 The Future Than Non HBCUs? Posted on 03-12-2004
jomarr68

I am :x ! I was talking to my aunt last night about my college decision and future. I told her that I plan on going to Hampton, and she feels as though that is a bad choice , and that I would be better off at a non HBCU. She says that they will set me up for the "real world". I feel as though Hampton and other HBCUs can set its graduates up for success. I wanna be the product of a HBCU and become an successful businessman. I also feel as though its not the school that will make me successful but how hard I work to reach my goals. I was wondering what are your opinions on how HBCUS can prepare us for the future in comparision to non HBCUS.If this is a repeated post MY FAULT.

Lil Darryl .. What do u mean HBCUs are smaller and more intimate .. That shiit was dumb .. All HBCUs are NOT the same size .. There are alot of PWIs smaller than some HBCUs and vise versa .. And wtf do u mean professors would have a greater chance on knowing ur name at an HBCU .. I highly doubt that .. Once again another stereotype .. Alllllll of my professors knew my name .. And Ive had 7 white professors .. 2 black .. and 1 foreign .. You said "The best part about an HBCU is develops you intellectually, culturally, and opens a new perspective every time you talk to someone" .. So this doesnt happen at a PWI huh? .. I mean everyone I talk to has the same EXACT answer right?? .. You are as dumb as a box of rocks .. You also said "if u have the same conversation with 30 people on a PWI campus regardless of race, 15-20 will say the same thing, but on an HBCU u are going to get 25-30 different opinions if not more" .. No seriously .. Are u really dumber than a box of rocks? .. NO TWO PEOPLE ARE THE SAME .. No matter where u go so how can u say ur gonna get the same exact answer .. Yo .. U done came up with a major **** stereotype of ur own .. And it sounds so damn stupid .. I dont know if ur gonna go to an HBCU or a PWI but u need to get in someones classroom .. QUICK
This is a discussion forum where people are allowed to express their opinions. I do not spread stereotypes, my opinions are based on experiences from me and my friends. What i say does not neccessarily apply to all HBCUs or PWIs. So to come on here and question my intelligence by degrading me by name calling is really uncalled for. Next time if you have a problem with my opinion address me first indiviually and privately before u try to put me on blast. The point I was trying to get across to that person trying to decide what college to attend is to follow their heart and pick the school that is best for you. Like JayDeezy said HBCUs and PWIs have their ups and downs, I mentioned some that my friends and I have encountered. I've stated my peace hopefully what i said came across the way it was intended to people having to make similar decisions
Lil Darryl - I didnt try to put u on "blast" this is a discussion forum so we discuss things it wasnt putting u on blast just because I didnt agree .. I understand that we all are allowed to voice our opinion but some of the things u were saying were just foolish .. When u dont mean all PWIs then state that because when u just say PWI I feel that you are speaking on behalf of all PWIs which is not possible .... JayDeezy - Im not on a bitter **** rampage I just hate when people compare HBCUs and PWIs based upon stereotypes .. Foolish ones at that .. Biitch dont tell me to shut the f@ck up .. I am very content with my decision .. Thats not what Im defending .. Im not defending anything actually Im clearing up some stereotypes because I have been apart of both institutions during my 19 years of existance .. And I want the ignorant to be educated so I educate them on something that I obviously know more about and didnt just hear from racist **** black teacher themselves telling u that lame bullshiit about the white man who doesnt care about u and wont see u succeed (I have heard this as well) .. Yea HBCUs and PWIs have there ups and downs in the OPINION of SOME people because to me my school has no downs .. We do the same shiit everyone else does .. I dont kow why people act like HBCUs area different world or some shiit .. I came correct .. So u need to check ya self ..

Choklat Poet, who are you kidding?! You claim you attended both types of institutions (PWI and HBCU) but I doubt that. Just because you went to a predominantly black high school DOES NOT mean you know what it's like to attend an HBCU because the experiences are COMPLETELY different. The variations in socioeconomics and backgrounds of students at an HBCU are far different than those at predominantly black high schools. I attended all white prep schools all my life, so never . . . ever . . . think you can school me on PWI's. I went to 2 summer programs, one at Cornell and one at Brown, before I got to Morehouse, and please believe, neither was perfect, so Choklat, once again, get UP on ur SH*T. And you said your school has no downs?! Please, you better get off that high horse real quick, because in all honesty, if your school isnt Pac-10, Top 20, a member of the Seven Sisters, or Ivy League, then there's a reason why Princeton Review hasn't ranked you as such  sorry to rain on your parade :? Now, take a chill pill, and when you regain your composure, you can once again ATTEMPT to come correct . . . HOLLA

So this doesn't happen again understand the post before you reply. You could have just said that my opinion was foolish in the first place then you would have came across so hostile. DONT TAKE MY MEEKNESS FOR WEEKNESS. I dont know about you or where you are from, but check your emotions when replying and I'm in involved. I was speaking generally to push some observations, opinions, and facts about both institutions. HBCUs are a different world for some people, there are exceptions to the rule, in which u may be one. Discussion over

How do u highly doubt that???? .. Transfering is very common .. And it wouldnt be uncommon for me to have tranfered from Howard to Brown (HBCUtoPWI) .. Ive been to HBCUs Ive done summer programs also so all the bull ur claimin is like so what? .. And if u read what I said I clearly stated that they both have there ups and downs in the OPINION OF SOME PEOPLE and TO ME .. My school has no downs which means it fits MY NEEDS perfectly .. Not anyone elses .. I bet u would shiit in ur pants if I told u I went to Brown .. And what do ur rankings mean .. Are u saying that they are perfect?? .. Whats right for me may not be right for u so how the fucck are u gonna tell me my school isnt perfect for me .. Ur not me .. U dont know what the fucck I need .. Im chilled as ever, Never lost my composure .. And didnt make any attempts .. I do what I can do when I can do it .. So check ya self ONCE MORE

Hah, attempts to be so classy, yet so blatantly ****. You might be brown, but your from from being a student at that institution. Listen, I congratulate on whatever menial feets you feel you've accomplished, but for real man, quit with all the profanity, makes you sound . . . un-lady like . . . and neither a lady of Howard, Brown, or any other institution should carry or conduct herself in such a manner. Rep' your institution to the fullest, and don't try to claim (Brown) those of others, nobody likes a phony or a fake :?
