Since half of the stuff in the "ghetto" thread sounds like some suburb kids tryin to sound cool, here's checklist guide for you all. You are NOT ghetto/from the ghetto if.... ...You've NEVER heard your neighborhoods name on the news in a negative way. You've never seen a roach in your house You've NEVER EVER EVER had cars parked in the grass for weeks at a time You've never watched a drug bust while sitting on your own front porch. You've never heard gunshots at nite You've never seen the cops in your neighborhood after dark... These are just a few of the minimal requirements. If haven't experienced at least 4 of the 6 listings....you are NOT from the ghetto.

Omg..lol..are you serious... In Dallas, Texas the hood is mostly Mexican now. How can illegal aliens move to the suburbs off back? If you not from Oak Cliff, you wouldn't know so how are you telling me what it's like and you never been. Mr. Admin, don't make assumptions about people you know absolutely nothing about. I am no where near rich that's why I express much frustration on this board when people ASSume that all Hampton students are rich. When looking for a college I could have stayed in Texas, where it's cheaper, but I wanted a different experience and to get out of where I came from. I knew price would be an issue but my mom told me not to worry and to not let money get in the way of choosing a better education. I'm on 100% loans and my mom, who is 53 and could have retired because she's been working the same job for 33 years, is still busting her **** for me to stay here at Hampton cause she knows I enjoy it and I'll recieve a quality education. We don't have home phone, the lights and water have been off many of times, and my mom had to give up her car all because of me being in college. I grew up and continue to live in a neighborhood that hold so many people back but because of prayer and my mother raising me right, I was able to rise above that and unlimit myself and my dreams. Don't tell me who or what I am trying to be. Research and ask because you ASSume things about people you don't know.
WHOA and didn't you just assume I was talking about you??? Dang, ya'll cats are way tense... I think we all need to take a deep breath and relax a lil bit... I was not talking about you sweet heart... I went to Hampton and I was talking about the cats I went to school with 10 years ago... As for the Mexicans, I was just being honest, not trying to discredit you... Your post said "your not from the hood if theres no mexicans" so first thing that came to my mind was the fact that in Ohio in the early 1980's there was no mexicans... Nothing personal. Do you need a hug?

No I don't need a hug... I get plenty, thanks. You responded to my post and then put that comment about Hampton; it just look like you were referrring to me. Guess it just got irritating, cause a lot of people on here think all Hampton kids are spoiled and rich, and it feels like a total discredit to me & my mother and the hardwork she does to keep me at this school.

You've been to da A before? Apparently not.
Been to the airport, but that's it. I don't know about the ghetto's in the A. My ghetto has a million Mexicans. Suburbs has about two or three.
It's the exact opposite here. Ghetto here is almost all black. Latinos live about 5-10 miles from town (Chamblee, Doraville, Forest Park). Where I'm from (Stone Mountain, especially around W. Mountain St. and N. Hairston Rd.), the Latino population is growing fast.
Your talkin bout the Eastside of the A. On the Westside, Latinos movin in all over the place. It's a lot of them live on Hollywood Rd. and Howell Mill Rd. right off Bankhead. They even took over this grocery store/ laundry mat owned by these Chinese people that had been there for 15+yrs.

You want GHETTO? Go to Tijiuana. That place is the ghettoest of the ghettos. Nothin in America is ghetto compared to any other country. America is as soft as they come...next to Canada maybe. Thunder

There was no mexicans in the hood where I grew up , and it was definitely ghetto :-D #1 RULE, You are not from the ghetto if you have to TRY TO ACT LIKE YOU ARE FROM THE GHETTO!!! That was THE worst thing about rich kids that went to Hampton and tried to act like they grew up poor and they was hood... The cats that was really from the hood usually kept it low key.

Preach Megan! Smile I understand what ur expressin because I am there now I always have been both of my parents have to take out loans and there are still 4 other kids left. I thank God everyday that my parents are willing to scarafice(sp) just so that I can get the best education possible. And that is waht I intend to do and to help my siblings do the same. Shoot when I was in the ghetto every1 was their if you was strugglin to make it blacks, mexicans, ricans and even some white ppl. And for the record there are madd latinos in the ghettos & projects in GA specially in da A, Mactown and Robbins You ain't ghetto if your phone ain't been disconnected for at least a month or you don't have a house phone your lights have been shut off for at least two weeks you peanutbutter n jelly ain't one of ya favorite foods(meals) if the city or greyhound don't come nowhere were you live
