I am having a hard time in deciding which school to go to, I keep hearing good stuff from each and ecvery school but its hard to decide. My mom wants me to go to Standford because it's an "Ivy Legue" My cousin is a Hampton graduate and talks on and on about how Hampton is just da ****. My dad says Spelmen or Howard.... help..... What should I consider while making a difficult choice??? I am majoring in Law or Journalism by the way.......

HbCU's are probaly a littel overrated and to be honest if you graduate from an hbcu people employers will see you as black all the time..thats the sad truth. I believe you should head to Stanford and get ya PAC on cause it isnt a Ivy League. The networking there is way more respected than any HBCU sadly. Hope you got ya mind right ma, and good luck.
That is so silly. People are gonna see you as black all the time wheter you graduate from Harvard or Howard. Believe me I know you have ready made your choice by now because the deadline has passed but I hope you chose a HBCU. Like I said I was excepted into many top name PWI's but when it comes down to it you are gonna benefit more at an HBCU!

Pretty much...There should really be no question...but if you feel like you REALLy want the black college experience, then out of the HBCU's you named, I would choose Howard.

First things first . . . Spell Stanford correctly, enough of this "Standford" crap. Bottom line, Spelman, Howard, and Hampton, are just as good if not better than Stanford. You'll be treated as a young, intellectual, black woman at those schools, whereas at Stanford, you're a statistic, and the networking is phenomenal. Whoever said that hbcu networking is not that of a school like Stanford obviously doesn't go to a school like Morehouse, Spelman, Howard, Hampton, or FAMU, cause if they did, they would realize that our networks are just as powerful as those of Stanford, being able to claim prominent alumni such as Maynard Jackson, Thurgood Marshall, Debbie Allen, Julian Bond, Martin Luther King Jr, Phylicia Rashad, Lerone Bennett Jr., Marian Wright Edelman, Toni Morrison, and countless others. Spit a BLACK alumni list like that for me from Stanford and maybe I can hear you out . . . 'til then, keep it all in the fam, and head to a school like Howard, Spelman, or Hampton where not only will they nurture your intellect, but help and allow you to grow into a strong black woman. Stanford is just that . . . a name . . . When you get to corporate America, politics, medicine, or wherever you want to go, you will realize that your degree only helps, YOU make it happen, and a school like Stanford never changes the fact that your black. Quit listening to all these lame @$$ **** tellin you to go to Stanford cause it's Stanford. I go to Morehouse and I got into Yale, Brown, Stanford, Columbia, and NYU, and please believe I don't regret my choice cause I have family that went to all of the above schools, and I know that Morehouse will get me just as far if not further than any of those institutions because our alumni care about how well I do in life more than any white alum from another school ever will . . . Sleep on it . . . Holla . . .

^^^^^COSIGNS!! I am surprised so many students from HBCU's are suggesting Stanford, I mean it's a great school but I believe an HBCU education is a very valuable thing to an african american mind. Spelman, Howard, and Hampton are all very good colleges and I don't see them beneath Stanford at all, in fact they may be better when you look at the full scheme of things because !. they are good colleges 2. your around peers trying to achive the same goals 3. and the experience can be life changing but at the same time choose a school where you can be happy because if your not happy then the entire experience can be unsatisfying 8)

I disagree. I say, go to the school that gives you the most money. All are excellent institutions. So, I don't understand why people are telling you to just go to Stanford. It implies that the HBCU's that you also got accepted into offer a sub-par education. Just because The US World News & Report ranks them very highly and the HBCUs low means nothing (they are biased against HBCUs). Also, if one student graduates with a 2.7 GPA at Stanford (not saying that you would) and a 3.9 at Howard, I think that the Howard student will get the better job or into that IVY LEAGUE (edited for spelling) graduate school. Also, Stanford costs maybe $32,000+, with costs rising each year. Stanford is a lot farther than the rest of the schools. If Stanford costs the lowest cost for YOU, then attend. But go where it is the cheapest, since they are all great schools for a Black student like yourself.
