Did yall hear that rap he and Talib did on the Chapelle Show about industry beef?
Yep.
"Beef ain't the Summer Jam for Hot 97
Beef is the **** and **** epidemic
Beef don't come with a radio edit
Beef is when the judge is callin' you "defendant"
Beef, it comes with a long jail sentence
Handed down to you in a few short minutes"

See that's what I like about both Common and Mos Def. Most rappers, note I did say Most, not all. They only speak about what's going on in "their world". When was the last time ya'll heard Lil Jon spit a verse about the empowerment of black people? Mos Def and Common they speak on so many different levels. Yeah, they may talk about a club scene in a song or two. But then they also address some of the issues of the world. That's why I'm not too into rap. Or southern rap for that matter. I can't call the last time I just heard a rapper speak on some real ish about what's going on in the world. T.I. was justifying that we was selling weed in order to provide for his family. To me it seemed like he was trying to make it right, if that's why you're doing it. And he's sending the wrong message to these vulnerable young men out here. I could ramble on and on about rappers and why they're full of ish, but I won't.
Amen, amen!
And as for the comments about Sam & Bo being able 2 do whatever they feel...
Aiight, well if they don't care about their people, then that explanation is quite rational...
BUT....if they DO care about us as a whole...YES, they can do as they feel...but you would THINK that what they feel to DO will NOT contradict our already-difficult progress....
it's like...when people argue that Whites make fun of themselves on TV...so why can't Blacks? well, are Blacks **** the country? No. Are open opportunities right there, laid out on the table for Blacks like they are for Whites? No. Do Blacks receive fair, bias, and objective coverage and inclusion on the news, on TV in general, and in movies, like we should? No.
so until we do....why add to the madness??? Whites can do damn well whatever they please because they aren't the ones trying to reverse the twisted mentality and structure once designed to destroy them...that has worked so well...
they can make fun of themselves...**** themselves....WHATEVER to themselves...and they will STILL come out on top tomorrow....
we, on the other hand...we can't afford for ANY MISTAKES....or maybe a mistake once or maybe even twice, but NONE repeated ENDLESSLY.....yet that is something we just can't let sink in long enough to execute....
and Megan...yeah, maybe 30 to 50 years ago, music was talking about crazy stuff just like now...but there was a different type of society now....
less people knew of what was going on due to the resources....and overall, the country was trying to overcome the horrid status of what it was.....all of the laws of the land that went against people's human rights....
well, the point is that NOW that we are beyond that, for the most part....and now that resources such as the internet...and the cell phone (with a million capabilities) are both here with full force....people have NO EXCUSE....about STILL perpetuating ignorance in such great volumes as were happening so long ago....
I REALLY feel what Mos Def was saying because it is so tragically true......it's cool to have party and "crunk" music, but dayum....for a region so deeply rooted in racial and societal controversy in such a hypocritical country....you would THINK there would be more voices speaking up about the real issues....the issues that affect the masses....life ain't always about partying....it can't be....
and Lil' Jon has big influence right now....BIG influence....he could take what he's created from his fame...and put some of it to use in the form of educating people....putting out "Nas' 'I Can'"-type messages, ya know?
Ludacris too....that's my dude, no doubt, lol....he is SO talented...and off the hook lyrically....but truth be told, Luda don't be talkin' about anything, lol....so every now & then, in the midst of rappin' about...well, nada....he could try talking about something....'cause he KNOWS that because he is Luda, people will LISTEN.......same with Lil' Jon...
