im not sure if there had been a post about this b4 since im fairly new, but how do u feel about people who have haitian, jamaican, belizean, dominican, or whatever ancestry who appear to look black but hate it when people refer to them as such?
is that such a bad thing?
personally im imparital because i understand both sides of the argument. this girl i knew looked straight black but she was really of mixed ancestry. so whenever someone referred to her as black she made a big hoopla about how she is belizean and nigerian and she is not black.
is it our fault that we cant tell your race by the way you look? should we start off random conversation nowadays by saying:
"hi my name is ominy and im black and native american. whats your name and what are you?"
is the issue of race really as taboo as it seems? what do u guys think?
I'm black because both of my parents are black but they are of mixed ancestry. my grandma was half black and native american (father's mother) his father was mixed with irish, scottish , cherokee indian, african ,british and french. My mom' grandma was half native american too. I have all of those parts in in me . I look mostly black on the outside eventhough I have other ancestry too. I think black people get bent out of shape over the color and good hair bad hair thing , and color thing because of slavery. We been terrorized by white people to think we are bad people. which isn't the truth. The truth is you have god and bad in all races. Technically , all people decended from adam and eve anyway. which were african black origin. Inside the continent of africa it is apparent in their features. Also in the blood, there are all the genetics there to literally make every and every color known to man and different bodily features too. Jesus( yeshua) was black hebrew. So was his mother mary. He said if you seen him then you sen the father. The bible itself describes him of having wooly hair and dark brown skin. features that white america assume to label as black but don't want to Give credit where it's due and Don God as Black. to me it's a mystery but that is how it is unfortuantely.
Yea this whole race thing can get real complicated... Im mixed, my moms is Greek and my dads bermudian. I was born here in Canada but when people ask me where im from I say im greek-bermudian. I comsider myself black for the mere fact that I cant consider myself white because I simply dont look it.
Up here we dont have the same problem with Jamaicans etc... sayin they're not black cuz we dont really have many African-Canadian people, and those who are predominantly from Nova Scotia and thats where they say they are from. Ive never heard a Carribean person say they are not black but I guess it must be difficult fot them to understand the way people are racially classified. If you look black you are called black, and if u dont then ur not.
The whole one drop thing is ridiculous I think, I mean if u have 1/64th black it would be really difficult to consider urself black, but thats just me. I dont kno too much about the Hispanic thing because there are barely any latinos up here but if ur Brazilian n u look black then u will be called black.
But I dont think we should let other people classifly us. If u wanna call yourself Haitian instaed of black then go ahead I dont think anyone should tell you who you are or how you should view yourself.
wow....i know there's people out there that say it but I never heard someone say "im Jamaican not black" :|
last time i checked, Haiti was the first BLACK independent nation (sorry i just had to throw that in there)

me too. except for all the mixing that i know of is on my mothers side. my grandmother is black, choctaw indian, french and white (which is basically creole) and my grandfather is black and cherokee indian. and thats only on my mothers side. i have no idea about the ancstry on my fathers side.
