Hello everyone! I'm a new member of HBCUCONNECT.COM. I need to talk to a Spelman alumni or either someone who is enrolled now. I really want to go there but I want to make sure I am making the right choice. I would appreciate any response. Thanks a lotta much !!!!!
I think you misunderstood me, I'm not familiar with every thing that everyone else says about my college and spelman, I was noting that it was improbable that someone thinks morehouse men are arogant b/c of a list ranking instead of some form of personal experience. It's not ok to be arogant and if you are christian like myself and alot of the morehouse administration and teachings, then you should take pride in your school and everything that you plan to accomplish while at your school, but you shouldn't be boastful or proud. Humility is a virtue.
Someone probably already asked, but what is life like at Spellman (the people, the dorms, the classes, the teachers) and in the ATL? Me being from Cali, I haven't really experienced southern life, I've been to the south but just around fam... people have told me its completely different…And also when applying what were your grades like, and were you involved in a lot of extracurricular activities?
I know about thirty cali spelmanites. They seem to like it. And out of all the other states that have sent kidz to the auc, my cali and ohio people complain the least about atl. If you want I can get you some phone numbers and email addresses of some spelman students who can answer your questions. Just let me know what part u're reppin.

 Ok ur from the Bay area? Thats whatsup, so am . So coming from the bay to atl, its a BIG DIFFERENCE. Mainly because in the bay theres so many different cultures, but atl is basically all black people.Thats one thing you have to get used to.People arnt really i guess "country" because atl is more fast paced, but you will definitely notice the difference in the slang, and how people talk.
 Getting around is cool, if ur used to taking the BART, the MARTA is the same thing, just ..worse.
 All my teachers were hella cool though i have heard some stories from my friends.
 The people in the AUC are cool for the most part, you just have to meet the right ones. Everyone isnt a friend, and everyone cant be trusted even though you think they can. First impressions are deceiving sometimes, wait till like the 2nd or 3rd to decide if they are worth your time.
 Dorms, i cant really speak on that... Im off campus. So wat i have to walk, i would walk an extra..4 mins just to stay off campus. I love the freedom.
 Classes, for the most part, they were easy, unless your a bio major, in that case, good luck.
 One thing i found out is a lot of people havent really outgrown the highschool menality, so some people may try to do you wrong just because they think they can, or they have nothing better to do. I had this one girl who used to be all in my mouth everytime i would be talking to one of my friends in class, and it was so obvious caz her seat was facing the other way but she would turn around and pretend she was helping someone else at the unit by mine. When girls find out that you have a common male friend, sometimes they start trippin. Other than immaturity and things of that nature, the social life at Spelman is what you make it. I had fun my first semester.Ohh memories. **On a sidenote-all the cali people that i have met all really bond. More than likely ur gonna find someone from cali that ur real cool with.
 As far as when i was applying- I didnt have a whole bunch of extra curricular activities, but i was at the top of everything i did do, so in my rec. letters my counselors, teachers explained all my acheivements in those activites. Quality, not quantity- at least thats what i think. I had good grades, but honestly, i dont think its all on grades because i know they rejected some people who had a 4.0.
And i have DEFINITELY seen my share of Morehouse men and Spelman women who have acted as if they were superior to others because they dont go to morehouse or spelman. Of course there are some people that will continuosly perpetuate the stereotypes of a spelman woman and a morehouse man. But at the same time, simple actions can be interpreted the wrong way. Am i stuck up for trying to walk down the strip without getting harrassed? If u see my on my way and i dont stop and talk, that doesnt mean im stuck up, it means im in a rush. Just because i dont have the luxury of sitting on a bench with 6 of my friends doesnt mean that i wouldnt if i could...i just dont have time. Next. I mean really. There is a difference between thinking you're better then the next person because you go to morehouse, than thinking you go to the better institution. The latter can be proven by facts, statistics, ect. Dont confuse them. Just because i wear the apology shirt, dont judge me. Nobody is saying it manifested itself, but this was here a long time before i arrived, so all i can speak on is wat i know. Im not lying to anybody, but at the same time in not gonna sit up here and say yes, if u come to spelman, u will become stuck up, because thats not true.I dont tell people wat i think they want to hear, i tell them what i think is true.
Thanks, Victoria ^^ very good info.
Is there somebody who knows about dorms
I could have sworn when I saw this site a couple months ago it had a special section for the people in the AUC, I never went in but I saw it.
I've been in all of them except 2 of the upperclass dorms and the one thing that I noticed is that they are all different, so if you don't ask on a specific one then you'll hear about 50 different opinions about them. I think llc1 has the nicest dorm, but they dont have as many freshmen as the other halls.
Thanks, Victoria ^^ very good info.

I wish I could tell you some info about freshmen dorms, but because of the big size of my class (08!), I live in an upperclassmen dorm.
Last year I was a freshwoman and I stayed in Manley. It was pretty coo'. A lot of people think that we had it bad because we didnt have a/c but its really not all that bad as long as you have a good window fan you really wont be able to tell the difference. Most of the rooms are doubles, even though there are a couple singles, and in the basement there are a couple rooms with four girls in them. In the dorm is where you will make your first friends, whether they will remain your friends is up to you. The other freshwoman dorms are Abby, and HH. Abby being the smallest and oldest and HH being the biggest and seemingly the rowdiest lol. Not being bias or anything  but I think that Manley is the best dorm, but if you all come to Spelbound you'll be able to judge for yourselves.
