DOWN SOUTH MUSIC THINK THEY GOT SUMTIN ON UP NORTH MUSIC!? Posted on 11-15-2004

I don't think Southern people be dissing up north music we just rep ours so hard yall think we dissing. A lot of us grew up on northern music so we have respect for it. It's like now we got something to rep cause for the longest, it was just West Coast & East Coast and no one from the south really was represented. Now for a change, we can represent. I never really heard anyone or any artist from the south dissing East Coast music. And just because it's different don't mean it's wrong. The north and the south are completely different places so we are gonna experience different things. This means that our stories and lyrics are gonna be different. Or you mad that Southern music is so popular now, or are you mad because you heard someone from the South dissing the East Coast and yall music?

I'm sure they're good but I gurantee that about 80% of their airplay in New York. If it wasn't for Bet I wouldn't have heard any of their music.
That may be true because in philly we have our artists that are from here and that i found out are only played here like that whole state p stuff. Every city is like that..................p.s. most of the music they play here is from N.Y.

LOL...so y'all are confident about...um...bein born in the place where it started? What are Y'ALL, meaning the residents who don't rap or have an influence on the culture, confident about? You mean you're confident in the people who influence y'all, that's about it.

For people saying that crunc music is a fad, I disagree because there is always going to be a market for it. I don't know about ya'll, but when I go to the club I dont care about lyrics. I care about a bad **** beat that I can get low with. Secondly, whats with all the disrespect. Just because a style is different from your own does not make that style any less valid. It seems that the artists understand that, but fans seem to want to disregard anything that is outside of their own closed microcosms. Also, about the Lil Jon dissing... if he didn't have a degree of talent then why are all these Northerners tryna work with him and have him on their records?

well, MOST New Yorkers have some type of influence on the culture................... EVERYONE has an influence on rap, especially if they live in NY............. because it STARTS in NY, we have no choice but to be involved..................... when u live somewhere, u make that city/state, what it IS................ u kinda help mold eachother................. as rap influences me, my viewpoints, likes, dislikes, and desires will influence rap.....................

I just bought the southern rap introspective DVD called "Dirty States of America". It basically chronicled the rise of southern hip hop. It went back as far as the early 80s and what not. Somebody (**** Mike?) said that people from other regions hate on Southern rap because they know that it's the future. People from other places can't relate to whats going on down south, but what they have to realize is that all black roots started in the south, and migrated to other places. All them **** from N.Y. who started hip hop were most likely grandkids of some people who moved away from the south back in the racial tensionized days. If you haven't seen that DVD, regardless of where you're from, I urge you to check that DVD out FOR REAL. That's the realest rap documentary I ever seen in my life. It talks about the origins of crunk, screw music, bounce music, different dances....everything. You dont have to be a fan of Southern rap, but you WILL have to put up with it being around for a while because it's here to stay. Northern rappers didn't wanna get down with southern artists because they couldn't feel where it was coming from....now that the south is making the big $$, everybody wanna get with different artists on this & that.

New York When you talk about labels that are on top...New York..and dont say aftermath/interscope because they not pushing units like the RoC. When you talk about longevity...New York im not hatin but this gotta be said....Down south music is hit but Up North Music (New York, Philly, New Jersey) is a classic

LOL...I was gonna say that in my reply to Jst Blaze. It's funny when NY people say all that about how "THEY" started rap n Sh*t, but most weren't born when rap was created, and technically, everybody in NY came from the south, so it's funny that they disrespect em when it comes to music. I think that's why the west and south are tite, well at least that we were tite in the 90s, because we recognized we were different but everybody in Ca has family down south so we always go there.
Thats our mentality we confident. If u act up we dont need you. we just gona keep it movin. Im not worried about what someone has to say. Came down south for the first time this sumemr and people gettin tight because my mans from My wasnt stressin them we kept it movin. You do yall dont worry about us because we can take care of ourselves. Like jada said "I'm not cocky im confident and when you tell me im the best its a compliment." AHA! And no not everybody came from the south you ignorant fool. but thats another day.
