Thanks for showing interest in Tennessee State University. I know the process of selecting a school is complicated. However, it is well worth the time and commitment to make the right choice. The knowledge gained will influence your life, personally and professionally. In 2007, Tennessee State University was crowned National Champion at the 18th Annual HBCU Academic Challenge. Also, Tennessee State University was ranked by US News as one of the best black universities. Personally, I recommend Tennessee State University, academically and socially. TSU is committed to educating its students as well as providing social events. As far as the psychology program, I have heard good things. Tennessee State University offers degrees at the Undergraduate (B.S. in Psychology), Graduate (M.S. In Psychology (Counseling Psychology, Educational Psychology, and School Psychology), and Doctorate ( Ph.D in Psychology (Counseling Psychology and School Psychology) level. In order to view the psychology courses offered, please view the undergraduate catalog. 2005-2007 TSU Undergraduate Catalog This will give you a feel for the courses and program. Tennessee State University is located in the capital of Tennessee (Nashville), which is close to several major cities, such as Atlanta, Memphis, St. Louis, Indianapolis, and Chicago. This is important to provide you with an idea of what Nashville is like. It’s influenced by several of its neighboring cities. For example, Memphis and St. Louis are known for Music (blues & Jazz). Nashville is called Music City due to having several recording studios and entertainment businesses. Another influence is Atlanta, which is known for a diverse economy and professional African Americans. Metropolitan Nashville is comprised of educated African Americans and several companies/headquarters (Nissan, HCA, Dell, Nortel, Caterpillar Financial, Saturn, Bellsouth, Genesco, etc...). Nashville is home to several HBCU’s (TSU, Fisk University, Meharry Medical College) and other Universities/Colleges (Vanderbilt, Belmont, Lipscomb, Trevecca, Nashville School of Law, MTSU). As far as transportation, we utilize the bus system (Welcome to the Nashville MTA!) and commuter rail system (http://www.musiccitystar.org/index.html). However, our public transportation is not as robust as D.C. Overall, Nashville is a productive city with lots of opportunity for all races.
There are parties for days on and off campus, especially during football season, basketball season, and greek weeks. I think our best games are against Florida A & M (Atlanta football Classic), Southern University (John Merit Classic), Jackson State (Southern Heritage Classic), Alabama A & M, and HOMECOMING. As far as malls, Green Hills and Cool Springs Galleria are very popular and upscale. Opry Mills is approximately 2 miles long and the largest mall in Nashville. Rivergate, Hickory Hillow, Prime Outlets at Lebanon, Stones River Mall are cool as well. For more event and mall information, check out the links below.

The dorms at Tennessee State University are good. All dorms have A/C, Cable, elevators, computer lab, study lounges, laundry facilities, and kitchen area (stove, oven, microwave, etc). Personally, I think the best dorm for ladies is the Wilma Rudolph Residence Center. The dorm is equipped with a keyless entry system, study lounges, beauty salon, laundry facility, computer lab, kitchen facilities on each floor, telephone services, campus cafeteria, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and Starbucks. i know a lot of us interested in applying to howard this fall had yet to take the SAT/ACT so i just wanted to give a heads up-for those planning on taking the ACT the first test date is September 13. however this is only in Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and West Virginia.-for the sep. 13th test the registration deadline is Aug. 12th and a late fee is required if you register between aug. 13th-22nd-for those planning on taking on taking the SAT you have more time as the first test date isnt until october 4th-the regular registration deadline for this test date is sep. 9th and late reg. deadline is sep. 16th--so ACT test takers your dates are soon approaching and SAT test takers keep those dates in the back of your mindgood luck to everyone!!!deuces
