MTV's True Life: I Go to an All Black College Posted on 01-13-2005

I was on mtv.com and saw in casting call that this topic is soon going to be an episode, and just wanted everyone who comes to this site to know about it (and possibly give sum one the idea of considering this?) True Life: I Go To An All Black College Originally African American colleges were created to ensure equal educational opportunities for black students. Today, many of these schools stand out academically, have developed unique cultures and are even sought out by non-black students. Do you attend a predominantly African American college and feel your school has a different culture than most "typical" colleges? Are you part of an upcoming event that is unique to your university? Are you part of a sorority, fraternity or sports team and have a rivalry with another black university? Are you one of the few non-black students at an all black college? If you appear between the ages of 18 and 28 and one of these scenarios describes you, e-mail True Life at college@mtvstaff.com. Please include name, address and phone number. Now, who would actually consider this? (I wish I could, but Im still in High School  )

I'm going to have to agree w/ Kenya on this one here.... NOT EVEN B/CUZ I GO TO Howard, but because it is one of the logical decisions.... Here's why: What do people think of when they think of a good HBCU? Sororities/Fraternities Community Service Political Awareness Famous/Important Alum/Faculty Sports Student Body Homecoming Let's start from the top. Howard has got the Greek Scene locked... 5 of the Divine 9 were founded (yes founded, not just have a chapter, but ALPHA chapter thank you very much) on the very ground that I walk on e'eryday. the impact that these organizations have had in the past and have currently are remarkable, and their mark is all over the world. Community Service:umm.. it's practically a graduation requirement to do community service. We do it here for fun.. Why? Because we see the impact of in on our community.. Trust.. the DC Metro schools need help, and we are really stepping up to the plate. Political Awareness: How about we were a major part of why Kerry won DC by a LANDSLIDE. Working w/ the Congressional Black Caucus and HipHop Summit Action Network, we held a Hip Hop Caucus that MANY of your schoolmates and peers attended, from all over the country. Alum/Faculty: Umm.. Roberta Flack. Donnie Hathaway. Shai. Ossie and Ruby Dee. Debbie Allen. Phylicia Rashad. Ernest E. Just. Thurgood Marshall. Ralph Bunche (the 1st Rhodes Scholar). Jessye Norman. Vernon Jordan. Toni Morrison. Zora Neale Hurston. 'nuff said. Sports: Now given, HU is not known for its sports teams, but history was definitely made when our ladies lacrosse team became the first all black lacrosse team in US.. oh yeah.. and their good too! Student Body: you all know you want to go here..... umm.. #1 Collegiate Newspaper (Princeton review) Homecoming: I don't think that ANYONE else's can compare. I'm sorry.. regardless of what you m ay think, you know you want to go to an HU homecoming just to see what allthe hype is about... WHY? cuz there is hype about it.. A Lot of it... I think it would be more fun for the people taping it than for the person really.. they might never want to go back.. Sh*t. HU... U know...
where have YOU been?

See what happens when u start dissin Howard. Folks come out of the boonies to represent  . As for the school debate thing that u have going on Monte, u can show those "statistics" until your finges cramp up, but the fact of the matter is, regardless for dorms/sports/setting or whatever other crap, these institutions are obviously doing something right if they are helping to develop leaders and successful alumni. Morehouse, Spelman, Hampton, Xavier, and Howard (that order might have changed in recent years tho) are rated as the top hbcus academically and competitively speaking with PWIs. No one has gone out of their way to dis Tuskegee, they've only sought to defend their own, so it baffles me as to why u are so concerned with putting other HBCUs down. I have no desire to talk negatively about your school. Why? Becuz your school was founded on the same principle as mine: to give African Americans the opportunity to receive an adequate education. To put down your institution would be equivalent to putting down my own
