And with the first pick of the 2006 NFL Draft. The houston Texans select USC Quarter Back, Matt Leinart.

I don't think any other qb would be willing to play behind that offensive line. David Carr is special because he's taken hits like he's a running back since his rookie year. But he's got the skills indeed (check his latter performances last year), and I even think he has the cast. Andre Johson is obviously a beast when healthy and dominick davis is a solid back who can give a team 1300 on the ground and 50 receptions from the backfield. But this just shows that it really does start with the offensive line. The running game isn't as effective, and David Carr can only do so much if he's getting hit so much. The Texans need a new coaching staff though and a few people in the front office should be shot for making some of the decisions that they have.
As for Atlanta, I'm upset. I really wanted to see Vick progress in his development. Mcnabb did it....Mcnair did it...Culpepper did it...What's wrong with Vick?
The Bears certainly aren't pretenders. True, I do pump the Bears up big time...That's because their my team. But I think if they finish this season at the top of their division that would be playing up to their talent level. If they make it out of the first round that would be overexceeding expectations.
::sheds tears for the saints:: Would this be a bad time to fire Haslett?
I feel bad for the Chargers.
The number one pretenders in the league: Indianapolis Colts. Their offensive isn't as explosive as last year and their defense isn't as good as they seem.
The most underrated team in the league right now: The Redskins. Ok, they have one of the best defenses in the league WITHOUT Lavar Arrington in the starting line up. Mark Brunell is looking like he's back in a Jaguars uniform, Santana Moss is breaking out serious, and Clinton Portis keeps doin his thing.

Wait a minute now. Vick has been progressing. He hasn't any gaudy passing numbers but he's been making smart decisions and playing efficient games. The second half of the Seahawks game and the Bills game, people were marveling at how Vick was able to sit in the pocket and pick the defense apart. You have to keep in mind that Vick is still learning this west-coast offense, which experts say take 3-5 years to master. Last year was his first year in the offense. Give him some time.
Sure I'd like our passing offense to improve but as long as we keep winning ball games I'm happy. Vick will never be a Peyton Manning or a Dan Marino but he has the juice to get the job done and when the game is on the line, Vick is money.

it should be a good game tmrw between the lions and bears tmrw just because theyre tied for first...of course the lions are gonna win :-D
The game is steadly changing from what we saw in the early 90's with your Aikmans,Elways,Marinos ect... Todays game is a whole lot faster than previous years. With 6'5 290 lineman running 4 flat with no line you have to be able to escape the pocket or you will get **** (ala David Carr) So if a quarterback doesn't have guady passing numbers (see vick) doesn't deminish the fact that they are great. If you win thats all that matters. TAMPA BAY will fall off and ever since there super bowl year we have split the season series each year. Carolina versus Atlanta is like New England vs. Indy. Atl has there number,Look around there is nobody in the league that can stop Atlanta. JUST WAIT TIL T.O IS DOWN HERE NEXT YEAR. OHHH ITS HAPPINING. And never compare Falcons to the Braves. We disowned them(BRAVES) back in 1999.
Midwest you were right, that was a super tough game.
2muchwill...If Vick can do nothing with 2 first rounf picks at wr's and a explosive running game then what will he do with T.O?
xRage made a good point, he's still developing in that west coast, but I find myself being pessimistic at times, because he looks like the same Vick as last years. He just seems stagnant to me.

Those 2 picks, Michael Jenkins and Roddy White, came late in the first round. They very easily could have slipped into the second round. Just because they were both No. 1s doesn't mean that they are automatically game-breakers, especially this early in their careers. Michael Jenkins had all of 7 catches last year after playing primarily on special teams. Roddy White I'm sure will become a very explosive receiver once he gets comfortable and gains some confidence.
As for Vick, you have to keep in mind that he is only 6'0, about 3 inches shorter than most starting QBs in the league. Thus he may tend to throw the ball higher than most other QBs to get it over D-linemen and linebackers. We need receivers who can make plays on the ball, go up and **** it out of the air when its in their vicinity (TO, Moss, Muhsin Muhammad). If you pay attention to Falcons games, you will realize that Vick primarily throws to his two biggest targets, Alge Crumpler (6'4) and Brian Finneran (6'5) because they are tall and actually catch the ball more often than not when its thrown their way. Peerless Price couldn't do that, which is why his behind is in Dallas way down on the depth chart. Dez White couldn't either (should have never gotten him from the Bears), which is why he is way down on our depth chart now. Thats why I was really hoping we would make a run at Plaxico Burress this offseason when he was a free agent, but it didn't happen.

I know you've gotta be cracking up after watching the Bucs put up only 10pts against the sorry-**** 49ers and their 4th string quaterback
Still though, we can't look past either of these 2 teams. The Bucs still have a monster defense that will cause problems for our O-line. We particularly seem to have trouble when we play them at their field. Usually Simeon Rice and Derrick Brooks have field days. We don't play them until December so alot of things could change by then.
As for Carolina, I definitely won't be looking past that game. Steve Smith is an absolute stud this year, out to prove a point after breaking his leg last year. It will be VERY important that D-Hall contain him. And don't forget about #90 who plays DE either......

Michael Jenkins is around 6'5, and I believe he could be doing a lot more under a more developed passing qb. Jeff Garcia and Doug Flutie found/finds ways to get the job done and Vick has way more talent than them, so there's no excuse for him. It's not his wr's it's his individual play as a passing qb which is still in progression.
One conclusion that I can come to is that as a scrambling qb it's going to take him time to develop as a passer. But seeing that he is dealing with a a complicated offense that is somewhat new to him it will probaly take him even more time, and to add on the talent that he has running the ball and how easily he can be dependant on his legs, it will take time.
I just want to see Vick develop like Mcnabb, Culpepper, and Mcnair. Talk about the truth. I think Marcus Vick will be a step ahead of Mike Vick when he gets to the league just because his coach has him more restricted forcing him to be more of a pocket passer at times.
Thats tempting to say but don't forget that the NFL is much different from the college game. Michael Vick looked alot like Marcus Vick does now when he was at VT, making plays with his legs and being very efficient passing the ball. I'm not making excuses for Mike, just naming factors that should be taken into consideration when talking about why he's not at the level most people expect him to be at when passing the ball. Like I said, the young receivers we have (Jenkins and Roddy White) are still progressing just like Vick is, so you really can't put the blame on one position. They still need to work on creating separation from DBs, running crisp routes, catching the ball, and being in a position to make a play when things break down at the line of scrimmage. There are a myriad of factors, including a new and complicated offense, a young QB with crazy scrambling skills, young developing receivers, and a stout running game. Like you said, it will take more time to develop the passing game when we can run the ball as well as we can. When you take all those factors into account, you begin to understand why we have the #1 rushing offense and not the #1 passing offense.
It makes it very hard to trust recievers that drop balls Dez White has been deactivated to the practice squad. Alge is the only set of hands Vick can really trust. But one point was brought to my attention about the recievers and Vick. Its a little harder to catch a left handed spirral when you are used to catching a right especially the speed and velocity Vick throws it at.
