Most of these pretain to white folks, but they're helpful and funny nonetheless. 24. Florida is not considered a southern state. There are far more Yankees than southerners living there.

Its the overall aura/vibe....For example, cars ride and people walk at a more laid-back pace...Like people don't have anywhere to go...You'd really think at least folks would drive faster with all the 60-70mph signs down here...Most we prob see back home is 55mph....
true. Were used to cities which are obviously going to be faster because of all the people. In the south there just arent that many population centers so everything is more spread out. plus, down south yall have more space which makes things so spread out which gives the illusion of slow and sprawly because you have to more than likely drive to get from place to place hope that made sense.

Well can someone explain this "slow enviroment" everyone speaks so avidly about??? I just don't see how everyone can generalize that the ENTIRE southern region of the country is "slow-paced"...I mean have y'all been to every southern state??? Maybe y'all just went to the rural areas because I don't think that generalization is true
Have you been up north? If not you wouldnt understand why she would make that comment. I have not been to every single southern state but I have been to most...and I can say the general pace down south is much slower than the north. Im not saying slow is bad....but it does exist down south....Until you been to NY, NJ, Philly, Boston, etc...and compare them to large commercial cities in the south such as ATL, Charlotte, Montgomery, etc...you will notice that the larger up north cities just are much more faster paced than the southern ones. In my experiences the south is just alot more relaxed and slow paced with walking, driving, talking, etc....which is the complete opposite of the north. And like I said...Im not saying slower is bad...Im just saying it definitely exists.

On the real, I'm from Florida (that whole thing about Florida not being southern, is only true to some extent, because I'm from Central florida and them **** out there talk with straight southern drawls) and I used to spend summers in Alabama, so the whole thing about the south moving slower is so true. When I went to DC, I got my feelings hurt, cuz if you don't step on the gas soon as that light turns green, you got 10 cars behind you already honking and cussing you out. I know even in Florida, we'll give you a second, and give a light honk, but damn. So to say that the south, from my experience, doesn't move slower than the north is ridiculous. Hell, I like it slow.

Yes I have been up north, and I appreciate you commenting on my statement with a valid answer, but it just seems like everyone is saying the south is "slower" in a negative way. I just wanted to make sure that some people have at least been to the south before they make that judgement on an entire REGION of the country, because if you haven't then you don't really know what you're talking about...but I'm done now, it's whatever...

That is so not true. I don't know where you have been, but my grandmother doesn't even drive 55mph. Most of the time, when people consider the south and it's "slow" pace, they consider small country **** towns that if you drive 70mph and go too far, you won't be in that town anymore. Alot of people fail to realize that there are many different types of areas in the south. There are small country rural areas, towns, and cities. A small rural area doesn't exemplify the whole southern way of life, just like New York isn't an example of every northern city.

Thanks for being REAL. Yall makin slow-paced a negative thing... Just because someone is commenting about it doesn't mean they are tryna demean the south. Im always in Atlanta, and though it is a nice, well-developed city with a tinge of a cosmopolitan atmosphere... It still has that southern drawl, its laidback, and very spread out. It seems like a bunch of suburbs instead of a city. But thats because Im used to everything being on top of everything rather than spread out. The new reason why I like the north better than the south is because there are too many insects... weird, nasty insects. I won't say I don't care for it because it is slow-paced anymore since it seems to get yall riled up.

look, the bottom line is the majority of the people from the north are gonna think the south is slower paced and different when they visit it.thats just how a lot of people are gonna feel esp if your comin from chicago, detroit,ny,etc, .i know for a fact that there is more of what a lot of people would call "southern hospitality" in the south, thus the name and thats one of the reasons why i like the south.... but the fact of the matter is, THINGS ARE DIFFERENT.thats just how it is if youre coming into a new enviroment that youre not used to.get over it and move on....

Thatz exactly what im asking Megan even though for some reason she smoothly got around answering that, But that goes for anybody, if u have only lived in the south all ur life, how the hell can u tell me the south isnt slower than the north? wat the fukk is that? and then, like i said b4, if you have lived in both the south and the north, im positive you have your own opinions about the north that i may not agree with.
