WVEC-TV Channel 13 is currently seeking to fill the following opening: This is a paid, yearlong training and developmental program in a broadcast-related field. The schedule is Monday-Friday, 12 midnight-8 am. This person is responsible for listening to scanners for spot news, making beat checks to local police and fire departments, assigning crews, monitoring the competition and then reporting to the producer and dayside assignment desk. Duties also include writing scripts, answering the newsroom phone, and other duties assigned by the producer. Candidates must have excellent writing skills, knowledge of the Hampton Roads area, a good understanding of legal and ethical issues in broadcast journalism and a passion for news. Strong organizational and communication skills are necessary. Candidates should be college students majoring in journalism/communication at Hampton University or Norfolk State University. Applications are due by April 27, 2007, and a decision will be made on or about May 11. ---------------- Don't be turned away by the late hours lol. I did the program for a year, and it was not that bad. This is an excellent opportunity for those looking to get a good jump on a broadcasting career.
