I am transferring from a private school in Missouri to Hampton University and I was just wondering from anyone, male or female, what is one of the most important things that I should know about the school and people at HU?

Good decision on choosing Hampton University. There have been many statements made about HU lately, so scroll down to the "Should I Go to Hampton" topic, that may be of some help to you. If you got anymore questions or whatever, just ask specifically, but check out the other post first.

The most important things about Hampton University you should know is that the school is out in the middle of no where, so things are very spread out. Definetley find people who have cars or bring your own car because you will be taking a taxi everywhere. Make sure you stay on top of your paperwork at Hampton because believe they will loose it and act like its your fault so just have your stuff together. Make sure you bring some money to order out because Hampton cafeteria and food is the nastiest on this earth and believe me I am not exaggerating. The academics at hampton are very good and you will always have teachers that will help you. The campus is very beautiful and safe so safety should not be a issue. The students at Hampton are o.k.,a lot of the students can be arrogant acting at times but if you find some people that are like you then you should be straight. The parties at Hampton suck so, find some clubs to go to off-campus.

so how are the dorms? I've heard a lot more negative things than positive about the school so far. But I don't know what to think. I am from Lees Summit, MO.

Another question I have is how hard is it to get around without a car? Also, I guess I should just ask someone in the housing office but since I am a transfer and I won't be considered freshman, if I stay in the dorms, do I still have the curfew? Does anyone know?

^^^if you have upperclassman credits, be sure to get into an upperclassman dorm.....you won't have a curfew. You can have a car if you're at least a junior. But, it's not that hard to get around without one....epecially if you make friends quick. Everything on campus is within walking distance. Plus, the downtown area is also within walking distance. Hampton is not in the middle of nowhere, it's just in the middle of a not so exciting city-like area. But, believe me, there are things to do. As for the dorms......do you want to know about the male or female dorms? I can only speak of the female dorms.

I have to cosign on what CoCo said...You can live without a car...especially Freshman year. Sophomore year you may get a little bit restless, but you will still have friends who have moved off campus, friends who've brought their cars to school regardless of the parking restrictions, etc.
