Have You Watched Boomerang? Posted on 05-31-2007

Everyone has a reason why they wear what they wear, so who do you dress for? For the haters/other ladies? For the fellas? For yourself? Do you find yourself having to spend outside of your means to keep yourself up? (ie. I shouldn't use my card on these shoes, but I GOTTA have em for the party this weekend!!) Speak up ladies!

Well...the easiest answer would be to say "i rock what i wear for me", and yes..to a certain extent we all do. But lets be real, male or female, nothing that we do in live is solely JUST for us. Society, as well as our environment, has an affect on everything that we think, say, feel, and yes...even wear. With that said, I do consider myself to be someone who has a somewhat eccentric sense of style. I'm not big on labels, but if I like the make, feel, quality, and look of something...i'm going to be drawn to it. To be honest, I've found some of my most flyest pieces in a thrift store. It's all about what you feel most comfortable in and what style is a true reflection of you. And whether we want to admit it or not, it's for the haters, it's for the admirers, it's for us, it's for men, it's for women...it's for the world. Our fashion sense is just an extension of ourselves.

I'll be the first to answer the original question lol I dress for me I suppose. Why waste my time trying to stay twenty steps ahead of the next female As soon as you do get those new Jordans/Coach's/Nine West, a new pair comes out and your whole outfit is yesterday's news. Unless your stuff is 100% custom made [which it proabably isn't] someone else will always have the same thing as you. It happens to the best of us....yes even celebrities. See exhibits A, B, and C. Exhibit A: Miss Universe [Riyo Mori] & Oprah have on the same Gucci dress Exhibit B: Julie Bowen & Christina Milian rockin the same dress Exhibit C: Beyonce & Lindsey Lohan have on the same vest
If you ask me...I think they all look great in the fits (Oprah is WEARING that dress). Well...minis Beyonce in the vest, it kinda clashes with the design in the blouse she has on (however, those slacks are FIERCE). I think the key to a great fit is to customize it and make it your own. Becuz we all have something that thousands and thousands of other people own. It's called mass production, so it's gonna happen. But when you are creative enough to play with an outfit it give it your own special flare, then that is how you seperate yourself from the thousands of other people that own that same particular item.

PRAISE THE LORD!!! Everything that I do, I do unto the Lord...including my dressing. I dress modest & respectfully. My blouses don't show my chest and my dresses or skirts go past my knees. My clothes are not tight or revealing. It might sound boring, but my dress is anything but. I love the way that I dress. I like to coordinate. I like hats, purses, and shoes. I have a way of making something look good...or maybe it's just me that makes it look good. (LOL) I have a style that's all my own and I get compliments on whatever I wear. I choose clothes that look good to me. I don't care how good something looks on somebody else, I'm not going out to buy it. I buy what I like and not what anybody else likes, that's why when I buy my clothes I don't need to ask anybody, "How does this look on me?" All I have to do is look in the mirror and I'll know if it's for me.

Tamara, do you ever wear pants/jeans/slacks? I'm just curious b/c I knew a girl in high school that only wore skirts past her knees...no pants or shorts or anything because of her beliefs. Just curious to know if you were the same way.

PRAISE THE LORD!!! I only wear pants once a year and that's when my church has it's annual jubilee run and competition. I can't run, shoot hoops, or do an obsticle course in my skirt. (I could...but it would be a very interesting sight. LOL) If it's real cold in the winter I will wear pants under my skirts, but that's rare. I don't just wear skirts because I am saved, but because it makes me feel more like a WOMAN OF GOD!!! I don't believe that pants should be worn in the sanctuary, but I wouldn't knock someone that wore them. The Lord is the only one that can judge or change people, just like he changed me. See, all my pants were tight fitting, because I loved showing off my shape. I loved the attention I got behind it. When I got saved, I didn't feel right wearing pants anymore because I no longer had a seductive mentality. So, for me it wasn't the pants/jeans/slacks that was a problem, it was the person that I was when I wore them. Now when I wear my dresses/skirts my head is up even higher, because I still look good and I'm not giving out the wrong impression. Now when I dress I'm not trying to get the attention of every guy that I come in contact with. Actually, it seems like I get more compliments now than I ever did...who would have guessed that.?! Just because a person wears dresses/skirts all the time doesn't make them saved. They can still be on the road to destruction, just like anyone else. We look at the outter man & God looks at the inner man...so, if you aint right it doesn't matter what you wear, you can still go to hell!
