Whassup yall, well my name is Precious and I'm a senior from Jacksonville, Florida. I just found out a couple of weeks ago I've been accepted to FAMU and also UCF for the Fall 2008 term. I'm pretty sure I'll be going to FAMU though since I've been wanting to go to FAM since 4th grade and my momma wants me to go there too. But first can yall jus tell me everything I need to know about FAMU (good and bad) especially about the dorms (which i heard was nasty), the School of Business and Industry (I want to major in accounting), and the sororities. OH YEA!! and about not bein able to drive first year (Is that as bad as it sounds....cuz it sounds real bad).

FAMU and UCF are very good institutions. I think it really depends on your expectations. I think with most HBCUs, the social life is probably more interesting compared to traditional universities. However, some traditional universities are good in terms of social life. Coincidentally, after I finished at TSU, I went to school at UCF. It was a different experience compared to TN State, but I enjoyed it and obtained a good education. I recommend visiting each university to get a feel for the academics and social life. Once you visit, you will definitely know in your heart, which to choose. Good Luck!
Thank you so much. Yea I went to FAM for their homecoming and it was fun and i plan on visiting UCF in december for their open house. I think it'll probablly come down to whether I'd rather live in Tallahassee or Orlando
then let me help you with that question:
Tallahassee is a college town. You have FAMU,FSU, TCC, and 3 other trade schools in the city and in essence the students really drive the economy here in Tally.
Orlando obviously isn't a college town and tourism drives their economy.
it all boils down to what you want.

Well if you havent already you should look in the FAMU yard posts. My best friend goes to FAMU when I went to visit him they were having major issues with their accreditation (sp) which I would look at if I were you...and at the same time if you qualify for the Bright Futures scholarship they are very unstable in distributing the funds recieved from the scholarship effectively and if you are not persistent with the office you will prolly be in trouble ( that happened to a friend of mine). The good side I can tell you from first hand there is a party almost EVERY NIGHT like od i thought they were exaggerating but its true and FSU is very close so it only enhances the social scene but thats pretty much it.
yea i heard about the problems they have with financial aid. see thats wut i was worried about, because I qualify for bright future but that only helps out with tuition and fees and as far as room and board goes it's all going to come down to which school offers me the best fin. aid package. when I was down there I saw a flyer posted up for every day of the week talking about a party. Don't get me wrong I love to party, but damn is that the only thing to do in Tallahassee. I can stay in jacksonville for that. lol Thats probably the major thing that draws me to UCF, the city itself. But when it comes to FAMU's atmosphere and the people, you can't really beat it. I'm torn....lol!
