Hey whats up everybody I got into Alabama State University but I am also thinking about North Carolina A & T State University. I don't know which one I should choose to go too. I am going to be majoring in Criminal Justice. And I am transferring from a college in NY. I am not sure which one I should pick could someone help me.
Some where thats safe and not ghetto. Were I can learn and not worry about anything bad happening while I am there. ASU lost my financial aid papers so now I have to fill them out again and resend them. That already made a bad impression for me about ASU
^^^^lol
Bad things can happen anywhere. So don't think that just because a school is located in a certain area that it means it is "ghetto" or "dangerous".
I'm a sophmore at Tuskegee and have friends who attend ASU. I hope this doesn't shock you but ASU's campus is located in the projects. It is a great school regardless but not as great as the prestigious Tuskegee University. lol
I know ASU is near the projects that is the least of my worries because it can't be worst then the projects in NY. The reason why I didn't want to go to ASU no more because they lost my tax forms, verification sheets, my ward of the court papers, everything. I have to send these papers back to them. So I can have money to attend the school. And then the lady told me they lost my papers. I almost cussed her out.
Well I think everyone who attends a HBCU has had problems with the administration at one point or another. I went through the same thing this summer with my financial aid. They lost my mother's forms not once but twice. I think you should go to the school which offers the best financial package.
You still really did tell me what you are looking for in a college. Are there any organizations or clubs that you are interested in? What are your reasons for attending a HBCU?
My major is going to be Criminal Justice but I don't know which HBCU offers the best Criminal Justice program. I applied to Alabama State University because I think its the cheapest out of all of them. I also got into Jackson State, Grambling State, Clark Atlanta, Shaw University, and Alabama State University. I want to go to an all black college because my uncle said it is a real good experience. He went to Xavier in Louisiana. He said it was the best experience in his life. I want to go some where that will offer me the best experience, a lot of down to earth cool people, some where that is not that too much of money, but money is not really a problem. Some where I know I will be safe because I am going out of state and NY does not have any HBCUs. And I don't know anyone one so I just need to be some where I don't have to worry about walking down the street and being shot. I am traveling and don't know anybody where any of these HBCUs are and I can't call on them if I am 100s of miles away. Last but not least I heard the dorms at Alabama State for the males are horrible. People have to live in those buildings and the administration should be doing there job cleaning them and making sure they are up to par. This is the most hardest decision I think I have had to make.
I went through the same ordeal. I'm from Cleveland and coming down south was a very hard decision for me. The adjustment from city life to country living was very difficult. I think all freshman housing at HBCUs aren't the best accodamations but thats just a part. It shouldn't deter you for going to a HBCU. Those hard living situations help you appreciate a lot of things and you meet a lot of cool people in the dorms. Those dormies are in the same boat as you and you bond with those people that way. I hope this helped.
All of the schools on your list are cool. Most HBCUs in the south are located in a city or close to a city. ASU is located in the capital of Alabama so you will have a good time. Also, NC A&T is located is Greensboro, which is a nice location. If you are interested in seeing other NY people, you may find more in NC, since I-95 runs through NY and NC. However, you will find a great group of students with school spirit at ASU. Personally, I think you should visit your top choice. Therefore, you will feel comfortable with your decision. I recommend selecting the school that will prepare you for your future career. Check out the criminal justice department for each university. Look at the degree requirements. Also, research if they offer a masters or PhD. If they do, it could indicate how that major is valued at the university.Good luck!
