Is Howard For Me

so I'm a senior in high school and I'm getting a little nervous I consider Howard one of my top choices...but now I'm considering if Howard is really for me I live in California and I heard DC is a "ruff" city I'm a little concerned because living in SD all my life I never really experienced anything other than what I'm used to i don't want anyone to get the impression that I'm stuck up or anything because honestly I'm far from it...I know that every city has it's bad parts and you'll find bad people everywhere but I hear alot of stories about crimes in dc I don't want to cut Howard out because I really want to go there and I know it's stupid but I just need a little reassurance that DC isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be I'm determined to go to Howard even if that means staying in my dorm the entire time well not the entire time but you catch my drift oh PS... haven't heard much about the psychology dept. anything on that will be great as well

Howard's neighborhood is not that bad. I believed some of the rumors about DC until I visited. It's a great city with a lot of opportunities. You won't get shot walking to class lol. No worries. If you're really interested you should definitely visit and apply.

I'm also a rising senior in high school too...and I'm considering going to to Howard in the fall of '09....but from what people have told me on this website..if u use common sense then you will be fine..like dont walk around at night by yourself..and be aware of your surroundings...but hope this helps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ~S'moores~

Hey my name is kayla n like i've said in previous posts howard is at the top of my college list. now i've lived in brooklyn, new york for most of my life but im currently in south carolina. people automatically assume since i've lived in brooklyn i kno how to handle the streets or whateva.....but that's not the case........ i've never lived in any 'rough' neighborhoods where i would have to necessarily be streetsmart but i've never lived in the most protected well-to-do neighborhoods either. so what is my point? idk.........basically i think howard will probably be a new experience for you but its prob. not as bad as people make it out to be and prob. nothing difficult to get used to so if you are really considering howard then don't let rumors about its neighborhood stop you!! i kno i'm not n i hope you won't either!! deucez Thumbup

You know u were scared too..when u first went to Howard.. LOL

..but I have never ever lived in a big city like Washington, DC...I'm from a small town where everybody knows everybody..and the only problems we have...is when a carbon plant or something blows up....and u said they were building up the area...what exactly are they building?...
