Hello my name is Kenyetta and I've recently been accepted into Spelman College. I just wanted to know how often do they give out scholarships.
Also, if anyone currently attends Spelman can you tell me how you are affording the tuition.
thank you.
I don't go there, but I have a friend who graduated from there last year. She was fortunate that her parents could afford to pay out of pocket, but honestly at Spelman it is mostly loans. Not to many scholarships, but the lucky few recieve Presidential Scholarships(i think they give out 5 per class), deans scholarship(i believe there is around 60), and there is another one for people who have done alot of community service. You can apply for other scholarships though, you're just going to need to find outside scholarships.
Wow, I wish I was able to pay out of pocket for Spelman. I seriously hope Im one of those lucky few. If not, then I may not be able to attend.
One of my guidance counselors say that Spelman get funding and they may be able to give more money, but who knows.
Well...the thing is...Spelman has a huge edowment, especially for such a small school, they just don't have a substantial scholarship program. Where else are you considering because if you don't get a good enough scholarship there hampton and howard have really good scholarships. you should also apply for the tom joyner scholarship which offers a full ride to any hbcu.
Also, you can participate in a summer research program within your field of study. Most programs will give you money and pay your tuition. Check out Spelman programs for more details.

OMG I am going through thesame exact thing I REALLY want to go to Spelman and recently got accepted but can not pay for out of pocket. Howard offered me full tuition but Spelman is where my heart really is. I know they give out very few scholarships but I am hoping. Have you (or anyone else on here) been accepted to their honors program??
THANK YOU so much TSUblueTiger. Im going to check out some of these scholarships.
You are welcome!
Another way to pay for college is to become a TA (Teacher Assistant). Basically you will assist a professor with grading papers, etc. I am not sure about the details, but the pay is ok. Contact different departments and inquire about TA opportunities.
PS. Some companies changed their website structure. Therefore, some of the scholarship links that I listed on page 1 may not show up. If you cant find the scholarship page, Google the scholarship by name. Good Luck.
