Yo I'm working on the new forums. I'm personally creating the software from scratch, pulling in features from the current forums. The reason I am doing this?
For the following key reasons:
I have always hated having to have users login twice (once into main hbcuconnect site and once into forums, thats wack)
The features on here are way overkill, so we can make the forums faster and easier to use if we go custom
We can tie forum user accounts to your main hbcuconnect account so you'll just have one account to edit and then if you want, you can edit forum 'preferences'
I need some feedback on the key features you want me to make sure we have when the forums go live, and I'd love to invite some volunteers in to play with the new forums I am developing. Here are the features I am sure to have on the launch of the new forums, but please chime in with the features you use the most!
Bringing over all forum user accounts but only need to login once with your hbcuconnect account.
Bringing over all old forum threads and posts
Bringing over all smilies and the post editor thingy
Bringing over all signatures
Ability to subscribe to a forum or a thread
All bbcode conventions and smilies will still work

I have a question...would you be able to make it so that when you do a quick reply you can add something from the smile list? That is something that I've always wanted to be able to do!

Done... I finished that today and the smilies wont be all screwed up on the side of the page. they will be nice and cleanly laid out below the post text box... Praise the lord

OK here are a few suggestions for starters, I'm sure I'll think of some others later.
1) I'm not sure if you've implemented it on the main site already but you may want to implement a "captcha" type authentication method where it'll cut down on spammers.
2) Keep the Rep Power/Points/Post Counts type system. (I've worked HARD to get to where I is, I'd hate to see it gone in a blink :crying
3) No need for a buddy list, I don't see the effectiveness as it is right now.
4) I'm sure you've chosen new colors already.
5) I wouldn't keep ALL posts. I don't think you'd need posts that are already in "The Graveyard" or "Wall of Shame".
I'll try to think of some functional suggestions.

When you mentioned the ability to subscribe to a forum or thread, you are meaning that it will still be automatically done, right? I know some other website forums require you to click on a button to subscribe. Please keep the automatic subscribing to a thread the same. Also, could there be a Christian/Religion forum added? Thanks!
