LETS BE REAL!!!! Posted on 07-30-2004

Yesterday , I was having a conversation with some sports agents and other business men/women and the topic was : Why cant african americans come together and head to the top of the economic totem pole? The sports agents said these pro basketball/football players are just knuckle heads with athletic talent.Take away their talent and more than likely they would be in prison. Another reason is that the white sports agents just use them for their money, while for the most part black sports agents try to teach community responsibility. The business men/women said these reasons: NO EDUCATION kids raising kids rap music/sports only paths outside the hood. light skinned vs. dark skin picking up a book and speaking properly is seen as acting white can not face the truth (ie bill cosby comments offended ppl) What are your thoughts or reasons? If so, could you please provide a solution?

i could elaborate, but...i'll just pretty much say I agree w/ their reasons... not sure if I agree w/ the statement about if you take away their athletic talent, they'd be in prison...but everything else, i do agree w/... & either hoopin' or singing/**** do seem 2 only be the main lights on the other end of the tunnel for inner-city youth, unfortunately...i can understand why, but still....

my main issue is that reading or doing good in school is seen as acting white. that is frustrating to me because it dismisses the idea that blacks deserve credit for suceeding. i hate that every 'A' i have is a result of me trying to "be white" instead of me just working hard to do what i feel i need to do.

Let them decide to educate themselves. The choice will be made if at any point in time it seems worthwhile. How can we show them that an education is worthwile? It's pretty tricky...

i MIGHT offend some people , but i think AKA's and Deltas widen the divison between African Amercians . Simply because light skinned on one side ,dark skinned on the other.

^^lol, man, I'm not in either organization, but I don't agree with that statement cuz that's just a stereotype. Have you never seen a dark skinned AKA or a light skinned Delta?

yeah, i was just going to say it's supposedly not the case @ every school.. but i think he meant generally-speaking... but i still think the complexion-line issue is too heavy a responsibility to be mostly placed on the shoulders of these two organizations...

It all goes back to the slavery days, when all black folks were good for was working for the white man, and entertaining the white man. Everything that a certain race is currently good for, reflects their past. Whites are good at sitting on their **** and making money, while we're good at working the "blue-collar" jobs and entertainment. History and the future are all one in the same.
