Why the south is running it and will continue to do so Posted on 12-12-2004
Afro-American

I get tired of seeing some posts and describing the whole musical popularity of the South being a "fad"......*smh* how can the south be a fad i tell ya??....cause if you can EXPLAIN that to me, i would really like to understand, basically these other regions has been the "fad" if ya wanna check your history...so i wanna give my view on why the south runs it, and will continue to do SO we run country of course, lol moving on we run pop--hell justin timberlake, nsync, britney spears, ATL'S john mayer, jessica simpson, and some other white cats i dont have time to research lol, but who can get bigger in the white world than justin and britney ?? we run crunk/rap of course, dont need a list, including missy elliot, luda, TI, outkast, trina, cash money, trick daddy...the list could go on and on and on we run r&b--usher, ciara, tlc, monica, brandy from THAT GOOD OLE MISSIP, destiny's child...but damn who is bigger than usher, if you aint heard one song you's a bold **** lie the only thing we may be lacking in is, is neosoul--but we got ATL's india arie, south carolina's angie stone and north carolina's anthony hamilton dallas's erykah badu hell if ya wanna go into acting, we running comedy with dave chappelle(aight ill claim DC for this lol) and rickey smiley and drama with my georgia girl julia roberts , george clooney, jamie foxx, and soooo many other people hell the person who started it all just died, ray charles RIP the greatest musical genius, ARETHA FRANKLIN, curtis mayfield, gladys knight, lionel richie, lynrd skynrd, tina turner , JAMES BROWN, LOUIS ARMSTRONG,etc etc ETC with the classics...so my point is this other regions can say what they want, but we STARTED IT ALL, and we gonna finish it until the end of time, the south is NOT a fad, yall will still be bumping us in the club, work, whatever 30 years from now just like YALL have done since damn RECONSTRUCTION! with the ole throwback gospel spirtuals  we are the true innovators cause without us there would be no jazz, funk, rap or NOTHING of black music, so why not accept the fact that you love us *big hugs*... *hopefully noone took offense, others do have good music, its just time for yall to realize that lil jon and em hasnt been the ONLY influence we've had on yall and we emcompass all aspects of music in a MAJOR way

Hmm, interesting. Well I will say that the south is HOT but it won't be like this forever. Y'all will eventually cool off because everything is a cycle. Crunk music will slowly die out on a commercial nationwide level. In a few years, the artists from the south who have talent and have always been tite will still be around of course. But I believe that the average rappers who are the stereotypical southern styled rappers will not be on BET or get major record deals, because their time will be over. TI, Luda, Outkast, Eightball n MJG, Lil Wayne, Cash Money, all of them plus more will be around because they are good at what they do. I won't say that they are a fad. But I believe that all these hella country, extra'd out rappers, will not be around in some years. The same way the west was hot as hell in the 90s but only a few of them made it into the 2000s and still had success.

As long as they're are clubs, they're will be krunk music. I don't know about you but I just can't get down to Jay Z or Nas in the club like I want to. Krunk music been around for years, it just got more exposure. Little Richard got it krunk and people bought it. Luke got it krunk and people bought it. Now Lil John is carrying the torch and keeping it krunk.

The South is not a fad...BUT they are bringing what the people want right now which is Crunk music. It's controlling the airwaves but it's not selling records. So people like Crime Mob, The "White Tee" dudes, ect are making moves off of the south's popularity right now. The main southern Artists (and the ones selling records and making GOOD Albums) like Eightball & MJG, T.I., Outkast, Luda, Usher, Lil Wayne and Cash Money, ect are the ones who'll always be somewhere in the Music industry. But all the other "One Hit Wonders" who are capitalizing off of A&R searching for the "What's Hot" type of artist will not survive. The same goes for all the other types of music. Some NY rappers didn't survive once the cycle changed but the artists who made good albums are still around, just like in the West some didn't survive but the ones with talent are still around.
