Its not that serious...the biggest thing is no hats in buildings and no do-rags on campus period. No wife beaters outside your dorm. No Noticeable PJs in the cafe, depending on who's working the door and how good they can see. For the ladies...you're a student and not a ****...save the Fri. Night clothes for friday night...
I would say whatever you wore in high school for the most part can be worn here...go to our university website for more details

K Q QUEEN 4 LIFE....can't stop the reign!!!!
its really not that serious... girls, dont wear your club clothes to class. guys, no hats or doo rags. and dont be walkin around in ur pajamas, but its easy to get away with that.
as far as it being strict... hmmm... the professor will most likely just tell you to remove your hat. and as a freshman, ur dorm director and ra's will comment if ur showing too much skin. like i said... not hard to understand, not that serious.
Basically, you need to look presentable at all times. Though many people think that Hampton is a fashion show, its really about what an individual feels comfortable wearing. Its good to look your best at all times, so thats what many try to do. In corporate America, you can't go around rocking do rags, pajamas, etc., and even though this is your "Home", you shouldn't be outside of your dorm in that either. So, its pretty basic, and yes, there are several occasions such as first semester freshmen Ogden events, Opening Convocation, Career Fairs, etc. that require business attire. Its all part of achieving the motto "An Education For Life"...Hampton teaches things beyond the classroom, that will serve you beyond your first years of completing matriculation at HU.
Don't let the dress code discourage you, remember what your reason for attending an institution of higher education is REALLY about. Its about fun, but its about the BUSINESS.

And yes colleges need dress codes sometimes too, just like other schools, and just as there is a dress code in most professional organizations and/or businesses. Some obvious things that are not allowed in the business world are not allowed on this campus, even though it is not as strict as the business sector would be.
If you are at Hampton, your hair needs to be done anyway, lol. And who says the outfit has to be serious????
And of course the dress code applies to primarily academic buildings. You can come to the athletic events looking a mess if you wanna. That is purely your choice.
In the meanwhile, please dont hate on discouraging the wearing of do rags in public or hats inside public buildings for men (outside of the dorm).
