....when you see a person...do you see just that person...as in...that individual...or....do you see Black/White/Hispanic/Asian/Native American/etc.etc.etc....?
and if you see their race before actually seeing themselves....do you see their nationality or simply their "blanket" label (i.e. when u see Hispanics...do u just think "Hispanic/Latino" OR "Mexicans"...since many Black people think that's all Hispanics can be :?.....or do you see Mexican, Puerto Rican, Dominican, Cuban, Salvadorian, etc. etc. etc.???)???
and when it comes to Blacks, if you see us by our color/race before you see who we were behind that...do you see complexion...or simply "Black"?

one thing two friends (Jackie & Wesley) & i were discussing one day on the phone....
when you enter a classroom (or any other place with some or a lot of people) for the first time....do you automatically scan the room for Black people (or people of your race, whichever race you are)?? if there is, say, a room full of White people and like two specs of Black, lol...do you scurry on over to those two individuals???
if not, what do you do?i'll address the 1st half of my inquiry later....but for the 2nd half....Jackie says she doesn't do that....she just looks for the person with the friendliest & most "welcoming" face....that race doesn't ever play into that when she does....
Wesley says he does do that....he says if he looks into a classroom and sees one full of all White people, he'll turn around and go to another one, lol....and that he looks for any brothas or sistas in the crowd whenever in that situation....
& as for me....like I told them....i don't necessarily pay attention to the racial makeup of the room as soon as i go in it....but i might get a brief feel for it, partially for the reason of seeing if i actually know anyone in the class....after it appears that i don't, i just find a seat wherever (i usually prefer to sit on the far side and/or back of a classroom...because i like to know ALL of what is going on).....and THEN...once i'm SEATED....THAT'S when i might scan the room to observe the racial makeup.....
but anyway...how does it work with you all.....?
yeah when i see someone walking down the street, i usually see that person as their race..sometimes i stereotype too...right now i'm very paraniod of black males...don't knock me dammit i got robbed a few days ago...yeah i guess sometimes i negatively stereotype my own race just walkiing down the street o in the mall...

i'm just saying i look around the room and observe thier behavior...if their nice acting well behaved folk, then you like i feel good n junk...if they're all loud n rowdy and misbehaving and acting the fool and caring on, i just sit there and shake my head and think about how embarrassing they are to my race...i know i'm not the only one who does this...everybody does this like when they go to the movies or ride public transit or whatnot...[img]http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid147/pf318a2ca61119c8a171bfd7aea52e16a/f627d5e0.jpg[img]

we're not the only ones who "misbehave," "act a fool," & "carrying on".....so do you check the behavior of people of other races as well...and have that as a determining factor behind whether or not u decide to sit with them as you have implied that you do with Blacks?

Do i see race before face?Thats normally the first thing that crosses my mind subc.Do i see nationality or just blanket label?For every race other than hispanics i see "blanket" labels. Since im mixed, i can tell the difference between the nationalities as far as hispanics go.Do i see skin complexions?well..depends on who i talk to..if im approaching a girl...NO..but if im approaching a guy..YES..and since i like em tall, dark and handsome i tend to want to get to know the darker guy first.Do i scan rooms to find my own race?nope..im a social butterfly.. i talk to whoever! :bubble:

I always look at the race/ethnicity first. Its not cause I mean too, I just do it without realizing it. Its just obvious physical characteristics that make them stand out. But because I look at a persons ethnicity before anything else doesnt mean I look at them as a person any differently.

Hey whatz up....nothin much with me but on ur ?s...bein half black and half korean i'n usually on tha receiving end of alot of stereotypical comments....from the asian people I am usually seen as bad bcuz my dad's blk and from tha blk people Im seen as not really blk or not blk enuff cuz my ma is korean...I jus wanna say back in tha **** days if whites knew you had even an ounce of black blood in u they considered you blk esp if it showed sooo it real ly pisses my a..... off when I get some blk people who are like "oh you're not really blk you don't count" sooo I guess what Im tryna say is that when I enter a room I dont scan the room for the racial mix and what not but if I see a clique sitting together that Im not familiar with then I probly wont go sit with them..I guess I more check out what the person is wearing and the attitude they give off to try and figure out what they are into and whether or not they seem cool or conceited...like if someone is sitting by themself and has a mean mug on their face Im probly not gonna want to sit with them...whereas if someones by themself and looks approachable I will sit with them....when I see a HISPANIC person Im not gonna be like "oh look at that mexican girl"....because I kno what it feels like when people call me chinese or a **** and say oh you r all tha same....Im gonna be respectful of someones background if they r puertorican then thats what Im gonna call them...I mean if a white person came up to you and called you Jamaican or African would you like it???Nope...would you call a Jamaican person Haitian?????I hope not!
