Deep
by Stephanie Horton
he said I was deep like underground hip-hop
‘cause I rocked
Robert Nesta around my wrist, and
red, black and green goes cross my ****, and
a black power fist, that rests,
along my esophagus---
deep like five brotha’s ridin’ low on city streets
‘cause I wore elephant tusks in my ears, and
listened to neo beats…
he said I was deep;
deep like white roots traced back to Africa, or
Eve
‘cause I planted seeds,
in compound sentences resembling poetry, but
that don’t make me deep,
that only proves that I am real, so
that just makes him, ...
shallow.
