I plan on transferring to North Carolina Central University Fall 2004. I am coming from Columbia, SC, which is about 3.5-4 hours away from the school. I would like to find out some important facts about the university. First, do you all have visitation? I was told by someone that you don't so I figure the only way to find out the truth is to ask someone that goes to the school. Second, how big is the campus? ( approx. acres?) Third, how are the females? A friend of mine visited a program hosted by NCCU and he said the girls are dymes...is it tru? Last but not least, how is the overall atmosphere on campus? Is it a place where the students ususally have a good time or is it a school that would make you want to leave ASAP. Hit my up with any comments.
Campus:
NCCU is a mix of Georgian style buildings and modern brick buildings. The campus sits on 110 acres of green grass and hills. The campus has flowers and trees everywhere and is well kept. As a transfer student you will most likely live in Latham Hall next year since the newest dormitories are already full. You may be lucky enough to get into New Res or if you're on scholarship in the newest dorm on our new West Campus. However in the fall, three dorms shall re-open and two new ones will open. Another will follow in 2005. In addition, we have a new science building that will be complete in 2005. Every dormitory has a computer lab and every room is wired for T-1 and has cable.
Academics:
NCCU is known for it's history, education, nursing, criminal justice, fashion design, music and art programs on the undergraduate level and the library science, law, biotechnology, history, public administration, and education program on the graduate level. We have very fair teachers, yet do not expect them to go easy on you. You will get your **** kicked in some departments. It makes you a stronger student and a more dedicated worker.
Social Life:
The RTP area is one of the best places to go to college in the country. There are 13 schools within 60 miles and about 28,000 black collegians in that span. Durham may seem like a sleepy town when you first get here, but if you honestly can't find anything to do between Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill, the problem is you. . .not the city. NCCU and Duke students party mainly on Thursday at Club Bounce (Hip-Hop) and George's Garage (Pop & Top 40).
Campus comes alive during football season as the die-hard fans come back and tailgate; greeks step and we host pep rallies. The band, while not as big as some other schools, puts on a great show! We also have theater group, a dance group, two choirs, a jazz band, pep band and show band, quiz bowl, campus newspaper, two modeling troupes, all 9 fraternities and sororities and two social fellowships.
But a person can be bored on any campus in the US; that means they are a boring person.
Students at NCCU are a good looking bunch as a group. There is a good mix of hip-hop influenced style and more traditional style expressed by students since our student body is so diverse in backgrounds and ages. It's an excellent school for both traditional (18 y/o) and non-traditional students (24+).

whas up i visited NCCU last saturday for open house... it was a nice school some of the buildings need a lil work done to them but they said it would all be done by next fall... ummm the female dorms are a nice size, bigger than most ive seen on college campuses...they dont have that many parking spaces but they also said that would be fixed by next fall lol.... umm overall it looks like a nice school.. kinda has a small to medium size campus.... thas all i can think of for now... 1
Parking is THE major facilities issue on campus. However, since they are moving the students westward, there will be a lot more parking available by the new Science building and dorms.
