Room mates do's and dont's Posted on 06-15-2005

Okay as time gets closer and closer to school time I am getting nervous about the whole roommate situation. I just wanted some advice on how to establish a mutual respect with your roomie even if you two are totally different. I dont know with my luck it seems like I'll have the roomie from hell. Anybody got any stories? do you have any do's and donts on sharing that room space.

Do talk to your roommate about keeping the room clean Don't take your roommate's things without their permission ( i used to hate walking on the yard seeing my roommate in my clothing :x ) Do tell your roommate when you plan to have visitors and ask them to do the same for you (its being respectful) Don't blast your music at 3 am while your roommate is sleep Do try to have an open relationship with your roommate because it may make your living arrangements easier. There's more..i'm sure others will cover them

Try to be nice to your roomate ( even if they are not like anyone you've ever meet in your entire life !) Don't hold phone conversations in your 3am I don't think sharings is good unless you've both split the cost of the item, ya'll are best friends or that item is not worth much to you. this is the advice from the girl who has had two roomates in a year and if i would have followed some of my own advice in the begining I might have only had one.

Jeremy...stop flirtin with every darn chick on the planet. For u to have a "Jeremy Jr.", u sure are mighty busy. To the subject at hand... -Set your likes and dislikes straight from DAY ONE. Better yet...put it on paper, so later on there is no question about it. I know in the quad, the RA gave us a lil paper to fill out on stuff that was absolutely off limits. If i was smart at the time, i woulda said more than just "don't drink my orange juice". -Don't be afraid to let her know right away when u are unhappy with something. If u keep holdin stuff in, eventually you're gonna blow up and have an argument that could have easily been avoided. -Treat her as you would like to be treated. Be mindful at all times that u are not just livin by yourself. - If she just so happens to be a lesbian or bi, don't let her supposed "buddy" who stays in the dorm spend the night...all the time at that. Freshman year wasn't pretty ...then again, maybe my situation was unique :???: . AKAtude knows what i'm talkin about
