SCSU, NCATU, FAMU, SU? Posted on 09-11-2005

Blackville, SC
My favorite four HBCU's are: S. Carolina St.; NCATU; FAMU; and Southern U in no particular order. I can't decide which one I want to attend. Does anyone have any good or bad things that they know about these universities that would help me with my decision?

Don't base youe decision on which one is your favourite. Research the schools and base it on which one has what you're looking for. There's way too much info about each school for any one person from any of the schools to put it here.

1. I will tell you young bloods, that you must choose based on what the school will give you. If you are going to Howard but Hampton has the better department for your major then you chose poorly. 2. I chose South Carolina State University http://www.scsu.edu because at the time it was the nations number one minority officer producing school even with more minority officers produced at the time than the US Military Academy at Westpoint. The decision for me paid off as my military training is why I have the six figure income I have now. 3. FAMU, NC A&T and Tuskegee are known for some great engeneering programs that could rival any school. Howard is known for its Law School and Business School for undergrads, so I would put them at the top of the list if that's where I was headed. Dont sleep on small schools because the professors can make you more knowledgeable and tight just by the fact they have time to concentrate on you plus, a wack GPA from a great school may impact you at Grad School time. Plan ahead cause it wasn't raining when Noah built the Arc. 4. There are some unknown majors that can really get you paid if you know about them. Like logistics and transportation. Don't go to any school just for the social but, make sure your plan involves using the University for the most you can get out of it because, they are going to get there money! Some majors pay more than others so dont be afraid to take classes to diversify your resume should a future in the liberal art not take for you. I hate to see an underpaid college grad, lots of us have been there.

A&T and SCSU have the 1890s program which gives you a four year full scholarship, with 800 dollar book voucher, lap top, and gauranteed room and board for four years. Like ol dude said before A&T is known for the Engineering program which is number one among HBCUs and is ranked among the PWIs as one of the best in the nation. It also has the second best Journalism & Communications program to Hampton's top, and the best Psychology program among HBCUs, which is not widely known, but it doesn't have a grad program there, and it produces the most black CPAs, which I think are accountants. It's also one of the best HBCUs for grad programs. Choose the school based on the education you're planning on getting and not the social atmosphere. A&T is known as a party school, but it's not neccessarily true. There are parties, but you have to find a ride there. And incomming freshmen can't have cars starting Fall '06.
