Are You Angry Yet?

Are You Angry Yet?

FEATURED Content

So we have so much we could roll into this post: health care reform (yep...still), Israel/Turkey confrontation, and of course the BP oil spill. So the question is - not to you - but to our President, "Are you angry yet?" Below an excerpt from an article written by a thinker here in Baltimore. Enjoy the story.

Excerpt: There are a growing number of individuals in the media who would love to see President Obama display some more emotion with regard to the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Comedian Bill Maher caused a minor stir with some off-color remarks regarding Obama’s reaction to the environmental crisis.

I think it downright silly for us to buy into this issue of Obama not jumping up and down and visibly displaying anger and emotion over any issue, much less the debacle that's happing in the Gulf at this moment. Those of you that feel that he needs to show some “over the top" inability to control himself should ask yourself: Do you need to see that for yourself; to make yourself feel good? Or do you really think that it will really help the effort to fix that oil leak?

Someone really needs to explain to me what benefit will he gain from acting angry? I remember growing up that the person that you had to watch out for was the one that stayed composed, no matter what. I for one don't what him to act angry, I want him to be angry, and I believe that he is angry. I actually admire his demeanor and we should not get caught up in what the majority in this country expect in how a black man should act. After 8 years of Bush? They sat there and let that silly man display a have-hearted, Alfred E. Neiman, ****-eating grin which stay on his face the whole time he was in office and it'll take decades for this country to recover from him!

And Bill Mayer? I don't know about him. I used to have some respect for him but lately he has shown me his true self. He's just another bigot who happens to like black woman! (Although I can't fault him for that!) His take on the inhuman acts that Israel is perpetrating and his justifying it as if they have a right to starve a race of people because they can shows me that he's not my kind of person. Right is right, and wrong is wrong. And God (although he dosen't believe in God which says who he is) is watching.

It is now confirmed, the American media is full of idiots. Anyone complaining that the President is not putting on enough of a melodramtic performance for their pleasure needs their azz whupped.

This is yet another ridiculous, corporate media manufactured false story. It the President got angry, he'd be pegged with the stereotype of being yet another angry black man. If he expressed sadness, he'd be considered weak. It is not his job to be the "angry black man" any more than it's his job to be the " happy negro." But this dialogue does remind me of an experience I had when I attended one of Tiger Wood's pro tournaments, right after the Fuzzy Zoeller incident. By then he needed more security. One of the men I was standing near, as Tiger was walking to the next hole yelled "SMILE, Tiger." The way he said it made me turn and look, because it was in such a cold, sinister, malicious manner; made me immediately think of the South, hanging trees, and the 50s. In my view, this is yet another version of the same.

Wow, this is a mess! I remember the stupid look that Bush had on his face when they told him about the Twin Towers at the World Trade Center. That was priceless. He was so confused and disoriented that he didn't know whether to ..... or go blind, as the expression goes. He ended up closing one eye and passing gas. I think Obama is the coolest head of state in the world, both figuratively and literally. He maintains a calm exterior and calmly responds with intelligence.
I agree with a previous writer, he shouldn't put on a show for those critics that didn't vote for him anyway.

It is ridiculous to want to see President Obama display emotional discontent with what is going on with the BP oil spill. Personally since most repulicans always complain about government interfering with private sector I think that BP should be paying for ways to control the spill as well as paying for clean-up and damages that are affecting the earth. We cannot have it both ways either government is involved or they are not. I have not heard 1 republican say the President should not be involved.

Why does the President have to display the "angry black man" for anyone to believe that he is genuinely miffed regarding the BP spill? He displayed the human side once before with the police and his friend Mr. Gates and what did he get, ridiculed? So why does he have to prove anything to anybody. If he's layed down the law to BP, this should be enough! BP made the mess, they should be held responsible for cleaning up the mess as well as compensating the people that depend on the marine life for their loss of liveliehood. This can be clearly stated in a very calm, well-spoken manner and the point will be clear.

Each comment was appreciated - no matter which side of the argument you addressed. I do believe that if the President has not done so (as of yet), he NEEDS to personally speak with the CEO of BP. No middle person - just one to one conversation around the resources and strategy to be used going forward. Thanks again to each of you for your input. Be sure to look our for this weeks lead story - I'm searching the internet now!

No Torin...the President doesn't need to speak to the CEO of BP....he is speaking to the only person that matters on Wednesday...THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD of BP! The person Tony Hayward REPORTS TO. And its not a discussion on resources and strategy...its a discussion where President Obama tells the Chairman exactly how much money he expects BP to put in an escrow account to pay for the cleanup and compensation of all the workers affected, the families of the men that lost their lives and the residual harm that the Gulf will face for years and years to come.

Too often "too" is the concept that blacks have to contend with. Too angry. Too passive. Too loud. Too quiet. Too intense. Too lax. Too, too, too Black.

If Obama's initial approach had been intense and angry then he would have been accused of not having a cool enough head - not strategic enough, not focusing on the big picture. 25 years of corporate American, after leaving T.I. and I've seen the "too" applied to too many, too often. It is a way to maintain and manipulate power.
