Allstate Hits $1 Million Milestone in HBCU Donations, Announces Student Ambassador
|
Posted By: Jordan Carmichael on November 13, 2015 There's good news for HBCU students seeking financial assistance – Allstate wants to help! The insurance company announced this week that it has donated more than $1 million to HBCU scholarships through its Quotes for Education (QFE) program in partnership with the Tom Joyner Foundation. Quotes for Education raises scholarship money for HBCU students through an annual “quote drive” of sorts. For every person who mentions the program while receiving a free Allstate quote, whether in person, by phone or online, $10 (up to a total of $200,000) is donated to the Tom Joyner Foundation and distributed via HBCU student scholarships. The program also enables HBCU supporters to make a simple vote online for one school to earn an additional $50k in scholarships. To date, nearly 500 students have benefitted from the program, one of them being Delaware State University junior, Sharnada Martin. A 2014 scholarship recipient through funds generated from the QFE program, Martin was able to make final payments on her tuition and pay for her books thanks to the additional assistance. Having seen the importance of the program for herself, Martin is now giving back in her own way by ensuring other students know this opportunity is available. Allstate has selected Martin as its first-ever Quotes for Education Student Ambassador, a role she received out of several scholarship recipients for her outstanding leadership on her college campus. Martin hopes the new platform will allow her to bring awareness to how easily the public can participate and help support the program. "The extra financial support that I received through Allstate's Quotes for Education program ensured that I was able to focus more on my academic success and less on how I would pay for school," said Martin. "Knowing that my education directly benefitted from this program makes me passionate about encouraging everyone to join Allstate in investing in the future of HBCUs and its students." Those interested in supporting Allstate’s Quotes for Education program by receiving an online quote or voting for their favorite HBCU can log on to allstate.com/hbcu to participate. The 2015 Quotes for Education program runs through November 30. If you enjoyed this article, Join HBCU CONNECT today for similar content and opportunities via email! |
