About   (request update)
Is there a lack of “community” and “real life” resources and advice for Mothers in Academia? Yes. Yes, today institutions of higher learning provide more opportunities and resources for parents to succeed in school, but who really understands what it’s like to be a PhD student and a Mother? Who understands writing a book review, essay, or dissertation prospectus in between laundry and scraped knees? Or reading chapters of Harry Potter to your fourth grader while privately attempting to relate its phantasmagorical elements to the 17th century Salem Witch Hunts? Or swearing that if one more person said “I couldn’t imagine going through this program with a child” or “When are you going to be done, isn’t most of your cohort further along?” you were going to completely loose it! Who understands feeling isolated and even mediocre because you can’t make seminar because your child is sick or in trouble in school (again). Unfortunately not many people understand the plight of a (potential) PhD Mom.
My Interview Question
Are there any parents in graduate schoool?
