Ikhwan Calib James is a junior at Morehouse College majoring in Educational Studies with a minor in Chinese Studies. He is a Warren & Augusta Hume Education Scholar, Caesar Hill Washington Scholar, and recipient of Teach For America�s Outstanding All-Around Achievement Award. Calib serves as a Residential Advisor, Student Ambassador, and co-founder of �Service Over Everything.� Focused on the intersection of education, policy, and law, he researches K�12 school safety policies and presented at the International Conference on Urban Education. He plans to attend law school to become an education attorney advocating for students and teachers.

As a research intern, I am leading a project analyzing charter school applications submitted to the Texas Education Agency (TEA) from 2018 to 2024. The goal is to identify patterns in TEA�s approval and rejection decisions over time. By comparing characteristics of approved versus denied applications, the study aims to uncover trends that can help the Charter School Growth Fund better predict future approval outcomes. These insights will also inform how the organization supports and advises emerging charter school networks during the application process.
