Kristen L.Pope is an award-winning journalist. She is news reporter at Cablevision's News 12 Westchester in Yonkers, New York. Pope is also CEO of Pope Productions where she Hosts and Executive Produces the variety talk show "The Positive Controversy with Kristen Pope." The show is entering it's second season and premiering on the new Focus Broadcasting Network to 20 million homes this summer 2015.
Preparation and opportunity escorted NY-based multimedia journalist and host, Kristen L. Pope, into her dream job in Abilene, TX at ABC Affiliate KTXS in the Fall of 2012. After working freelance broadcast journalism in New York City for approximately seven years, Pope and her husband made the decision that she pursue a full-time reporting job. A door opened, but it required relocation.
In the infancy of her marriage, Pope took the leap to deepen her skills and work full-time in the newsroom, living long distance from her husband and commuting from Texas to New York. Pope joined the KTXS news team as the Education/Weekend Reporter. During her tenure at KTXS, Pope honed her skills as a videographer, editor, writer, reporter and all-around multimedia journalist. At the end of 2013, Pope reunited with her husband in New York. Upon returning, Pope quickly began creating content she loves and believes in and receiving offers to host and produce video projects for others.
She recently founded Pope Productions, a full service media production and short-form storytelling company. The flagship of the company is her cutting edge and innovative web talk show, “The Positive Controversy,” which Pope created, hosts, and Executive Produces. The show is tagged, “…a new kind of conversation,” because it balances entertaining and educating through cultural, social, lifestyle and current events.
Pope has interviewed some of this country’s greatest leaders including: National Action Network Founder and MSNBC Host, the Rev. Al Sharpton, TV One Washington Watch Host Roland Martin, and NAACP President Ben Jealous. She also co-hosted the 24th Annual Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Banquet red carpet, where she interviewed actors Blair Underwood and Lynn Whitfield.
Intensely involved in community activism, Pope founded The King’s Daughters, Inc., which focuses on creating good character, pleasing God and maintaining abstinence until marriage. The King’s Daughters provides empowering messages, group gatherings, outings and encouragement as a community. In addition, commercials she produced for the organization were featured on BET’s 106 & Park and WRKS Kiss Inspirations – 98.7 Kiss FM.
In 2010, Pope added author to her list of accomplishments, as her dream of being published came true with her contribution to the Souls of My Young Sisters: Young Women Break Their Silence with personal Stories That Will Change Your Life.
Pope began her career on air as an intern and then reporter for Hampton, Virginia’s Public Access Channel, 47. Pope was responsible for writing scripts for the channel’s original programming and coverage of city-wide events as well as in house and field production of scripted shows.
As a college student, Pope received her first job in media production with the former Vanguarde Media, Inc. as a television production intern for the “Savoy Living,” show which aired on the Fine Living Network.
Pope graduated from the Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications at Hampton University, in Hampton, VA. During her years at Hampton Pope earned Dean’s list honors and served as the personal photographer for Journalism Dean and long time TV host, Tony Brown.
