About   (request update)
Prior to facing my own mortality with a breast cancer diagnosis in 2013, I didn’t see a way to fulfill my life’s purpose. I underwent a double mastectomy which gave me a genuine thirst for knowledge. My life was fraught with molestation and domestic abuse. I am a single parent to five children, one with special needs. I have withstood homelessness and poverty. I realized completing my education is critical to transforming me and my children’s lives, allowing us a chance to thrive and turn our socioeconomic position around. I grew up in New York City, surrounded by a “melting pot” of different ethnicities and I thrive in a diverse culture. I am very ingenious and I will be an asset to your prominent campus.
I will complete my Associate Degree in Social Science at American River College in the summer of 2016. At ARC I have taken many classes that have enriched my knowledge helping me to become more articulate. I am a member of the Umoja-Sakhu Community, at ARC. I have a strong desire to attend Howard University and major in Sociology, which will enrich my knowledge of histories, cultures and many matters within several ethnic groups. Continuing my journey of higher learning and earning my Bachelor’s Degree at such a prestigious institution as Howard University, will enable me to continue to overcome many of my obstacles. I anticipate graduating from Howard University in the summer of 2018.
