UNCF partnered in 2010 with Money Management Institute (MMI), a national association of financial services firms, to manage the Gateway to Leadership (GTL) Internship Program. The Gateway to Leadership Internship Program is a diversity initiative that provides minority college students from historically black colleges and universities with paid summer internships at leading financial firms. The selected 2013 GTL fellows will participate in an 8-10 week summer internship at MMI services firms located in major cities such as New York, NY; Newark, NJ; Philadelphia, PA and St. Louis, MO.
Since 2007, Gateway to Leadership has successfully delivered approximately 100 qualified interns from HBCUs to premier financial services firms. The program had success with several GTL alums being hired at MMI affiliated firms or other prominent financial services firms. Of the 2011 GTL class, 11 out of 15 participants secured employment in financial services resulting in 73 % placement rate.
Interested applicants must be juniors at the time of application majoring in accounting, banking, economics, computer science, and finance; demonstrate a strong interest in financial services industry and possess a 3.0 or better GPA.
During the course of the internship, interns will gain meaningful work experience and exposure to the financial service industry and be compensated at the normal rates paid to the firms¡¦ corporate interns. The program also provides the following benefits:
„X Cover travel and accommodation expenses of each intern to and from the host firm city, the 2-day orientation, and the closing ceremony

„X Provide an eight week work experience

„X Pay the salary of intern(s) based on the firm¡¦s salaried summer pay( not less than $1000 per week)

„X Participate in leadership development activities that will enhance your skills

„X Have a host firm employee to mentor the intern

„X Participation in a team based business case competition
