Yalll not a real HBCU!!!!!!!!!!! yes its true General Samuel Armstrong!!! founded Hampton Institute and they are ashamed they stuck his statue in the basement of the building that they named after him. As we say in Norfolk "SORRY" that is "SORRY". Be proud of where you got your start. A confederate General.

Like I said... Howard, Spelman, Fisk, Alcorn, and most of the state schools were founded by Whites; more than half of them were founded by whites. The whole point of a Hampton, a Howard, or a Spelman was to educate freed slaves. So they aren't Black colleges because....??? And NSU was born under Virginia Union University, which was founded by...you guessed it....whites. **Who da hell erased the first post?

Are you crazy? Most HBCU's were founded by white people who happened to be Confederate. I can't believe I am even responding to this post. I suggest you do further research before you question the authenticity and origin of a school. And who didn't know that HIU was founded by Armstrong...you say it like you discovered a cure for ****.

Norfolk State was founded in 1935 as Norfolk State College and was declared the Norfolk unit of Virginia union university 9 years later was named Norfolk unit of Virginia state college 2 years before, it was independent standing alone as Norfolk Polytechnic college. We became independent from VSC in 1969. And excuse me DR. (not general white boy)Samuel F. Scott was credited as the founder along with Lyman B. Brooks the first president who was a BLACK man. Therefore Founded by the great Black people of Virginia. And Norfolk state is not in its original place. We dont call Virginia Union Big State!! lol We call Virginia State BIG state
