A top-rated Atlanta radio personality, who was arrested Sunday after a traffic stop, is disputing charges of drunken driving and possessing marijuana.
Porsche Foxx, the afternoon disc jockey on V-103, said Monday she was "totally innocent" and blasted news media for reporting "allegations without digging for details."
V-103's Porsche Foxx was charged with **** and marijuana possession Sunday in a traffic stop.
"I think my listeners know me well enough and they know I am smarter than that," Foxx said.
"It's truly unfair that the news people are creating their own stories, and when we have our court date, the judge will say the same thing," she added.
Foxx, whose real name is Stephanie Calhoun, was arrested about 2 a.m. Sunday after a DeKalb County police officer patrolling I-285 spotted her driving "extremely slow and erratically" near Bouldercrest Road, said police spokesman Dale Davis.
When the officer stopped Foxx, 39, on Moreland Avenue, she showed "signs of extreme impairment," Davis said. Police also found a small amount of marijuana "on her person," Davis said.
Foxx was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, misdemeanor possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, driving with a suspended licence, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving without insurance and impeding the flow of traffic. Davis said Foxx's blood was drawn but he did not know the results of the test.
She was booked into the DeKalb County Jail and released on $4,025 bond Sunday afternoon.
"I did not get a ****, absolutely not," Foxx said Monday evening. "Someone reported I had an ounce of marijuana on me. That's the first time I heard of that."
Foxx is the afternoon drive time DJ on V-103 (WVEE-FM), Atlanta's No. 1 urban station. She has been with the station for a little more than five years.
According to the latest Arbitron ratings, Foxx's 2 p.m to 6 p.m. show is the second most-listened-to show on commercial radio for all age groups in its time slot.
She is also the founder of the Porsche Foxx Community Force, which provides educational programs for homeless and underprivileged children.
Rick Caffey, market manager for Infinity Atlanta, which includes V-103, said Foxx is on vacation until the new year.
The vacation had been previously scheduled and began Friday, Caffey said. "[The incident] is a private, personal matter and we don't have any comment beyond that," he said.
