...of rendition (*sp) formation???
i made a xanga entry about this yesterday....and any psych majors out there, please feel free to correct the spelling of the first part of the term, 'cause i'm not sure if that's it....
but anyway...basically what rendition (*sp) formation is....is your ability to block out the "irrelevant" in your surroundings...
like, the example i used in my xanga entry was....if u're sitting in class, and your professor's talking....but the air condition is on in the room - the very audible air condition....
well, if you have a high level of rendition (*sp) formation, you can block out the air conditioner and focus in on the instructor...
but if you have a low one, that a/c is gonna just run your nerves!
as for me....like i said in my xanga, mine is pretty high when it comes to sounds....i remember one time freshman year, i was in my dormroom, trying to do some homework....& so was my roommate...
& all of a sudden, she was like, "DAMN, WHAT IS THAT NOISE!??"...i was like ???? what noise?! and then all of a sudden, i realized what she was talkin' about....there were some dudes above us who were i guess play wrestling or bouncin' the ISH out of a basketball or SOMEthin'...'cause u kept hearing a VERY loud thumping noise on the ceiling...
i thought it was so hilarious 'cause she kept wantin' to go off...'cause she couldn't concentrate on what she was doing...but soon after she made me aware of it, i again blocked it out
happened again one time we were both just chillin' in the room, i think....& she was like, "damn, they have been playin' that SAME Mariah Carey song ALL DAY - why don't they play somethin' new, DAMN"....now, i had sort of paid attention to the MC song, but not to the point where it was bothering me....it didn't really realize it was on repeat and loud until my roommate brought it 2 my attention....
besides that, aromas....my rendition (*sp) formation is rather high when it comes to the scents around me....
it never fails...someone'll be like, "u smell that smoke?"...& i'm like "what sm---oh" lol
or they'll be like "wtf?! u smell that?"....& i'm like "smell what?"....& they tell me what it smells like, & i'm like...."nah, don't think i---ugggh, WTF?!" lol
i'm not as proud about that ability ...'cause one day, i'mma catch myself in a world of trouble, blocking out, say, smoke from a fire i don't yet know about :?
and finally...when it comes to SIGHT....my rendition (*sp) formation is QUITE LOW.....it doesn't matter WHAT i'm doing, WHO i'm talking to, or WHAT...if i see an unusual or sudden appearance of something or someone at the corner of my eye...my eyes automatically dart towards it....
i think that's just accredited to my peak for curiosity, tho...even when i've tried to keep from doing that (like, while studying...paying attention to the BOOK and not, say, the person who just walked in the library or something)...but eventually, my eyes dart at the object in question anyway....
Haven't you done this thread before or am I having one hell of an episode of deja vu?
lol i was thinkin' i might've done it before...but if i did, it was a looooooooooooooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng time ago....like as in, a year or somethin'....'cause i know i haven't done it anytime this school year...
i might've done it over last summer or somethin'...i don't know...but i'm not sure....
i think for me it is based on my mood. if i'm not in a good mood, i'm annoyed by anything. like the clock in my room, usually i don't notice it, but when i'm moody i hear it loud and clear. i get so annoyed i want to throw it out the window....other than that, i'm pretty good at black stuff out.
for some reason i just tune EVERYTHING out..i see the professor talking..but for some reason the words just dont connect and make it to my ears :? aw well..im working on it
My level is very low...I hear EVERYTHING. I hear any little noise and get annoyed by it very easily...It's crazy sometimes because Im always the only one hearing things and everybody else is just able to tune it out...It's crazy...
i'm more like poetiq. i can tune out sounds well because i have younger brothers, so i have to be able to tune them out to get anything done. the only time this doesn't work is if the sounds are voices, especially in class. people talking makes it hard for me to concentrate. i can tune out smells until someone brings it to my attention. and i can't tune out objects for anything. if i'm in a room that i've never been in before and there's a lot of bright posters or objects i can't concentrate on anything else but those new objects.
