i sent out a message yesterday on TheFacebook announcing Johnnie Cochran's untimely demise.... received several responses, most from people who didn't know... but anyway...two of the people....SO FAR....actually asked me who Johnnie Cochran is.... now, before i take it upon myself....to make poor judgment of them and make a statement like "WHAT THA HELL?!?!".... ...is asking who Johnnie Cochran is...a valid question?? seriously...? i'm just wondering... in 2005....particularly as college students....as BLACK college students no less.....is it really okay for a few of us (or some) to sincerely not know who this man was...??? not even just a sentence of information or small idea of who he might've been?? i'm seriously just curious....because maybe it's just me who finds this very bizarre....which is why ask all of you.... was the knowledge of who this person was okay for anyone - regardless of color, race, religion, status, and maybe even age - not to be informed of??

I understand where Meya is coming from, but I definitely understand Wayne's point too...Im leaning more with Meya mainly cause after the OJ trial..EVERY BLACK PERSON IN AMERICA shoulda known that mans name and face. I remember the OJ trial so vividly and I was only in 5th grade. And besides that, I think Johnnie Cochran is apart of our black history that we as African Americans should know. And Im not just talking about knowing him for the OJ Trial...but Johnnie Cochran was the first attorney in history ( black or white ) to SUCCESSFULLY **** the state of California. Those are just important black history facts we should know anyway. But yea...thats my take on it.

PRECISELY!!! thank you, mila....all of my pointz, exactly... 2 mista dunham....I didn't know about him before the O.J. Trial....my mom did, but i didn't....and like Mila, i was in the 5th or 6th grade...but even then, i still managed to keep track of that name....i don't think it has anything to do with region....the O.J. case was NATIONWIDE!! and if the O.J. case didn't do it....he was back in the public's eye when he got Puffy off back in what, 2000?? and c'mon, now....all of those sitcoms and movies...with characters who always say stuff like "i'mma call Johnnie Cochran on you!!"...or "Johnnie Cochran is that MAN!"...or something to that extent...i mean, even if you don't know who he is, you should have at LEAST heard at LEAST 3 or 4 references to his name by now.... just doesn't seem quite logical to just now be questioning who he is....at his death.....ya mean to tell me this is the first time EVER that u've heard that name!?!? (<--rhetorical question directed to those two girls)... i'm not trying to be harsh...not trying to act like i know everything or anything....but just like Mila said....i just figured that was a given - that's all.... but perhaps not....

as usual... my point gets misinterpreted.... 6th grade... from the white bronco chase to the not guilty verdict... i remember mostly every name in that case... and yes i haven't forgot about the 2000 trial w/ Mr. Combs... and everyone should know, but some people don't get the info like u and i did... and there for they don't know as much facts as you and i... that was the point i was tryin to make...

oh nah, i understood what you were saying...perfectly... i wasn't attacking U...saying that U should know better....'cause I'm sure you know every relevant name from the O.J. case... i was speaking about those who don't know who Johnnie was.... i mean, to me....it's not even about knowing the ins & outs...the details...of the O.J. trial.... i mean even for those who are our age....and don't remember really ANYthing about that trial...or about Puffy's trial...or about Michael Jackson's trial in the early '90s (which JC helped him get out of)....it just seems to me...that at SOME point...within the past 10 years....i mean shoot, the past 5 or 2 years....that name would've came up to those people who don't know...... it's just amazing to me that they'd ask as if they have never in their LIVES heard of this name.... again...not trying to ostracize or judge them....i'm just speaking on the situation....it's just a little surprising to me.... someone in our generation saying they don't know who Johnnie Cochran is is just like them saying they've never heard of O.J. Simpson...'cause for many of us (in our generation and those after), it wasn't until that trial that we really did hear about him....just like Johnnie... so yeah...just a lil' surprising, that's all.... but anywayz....
