Hello HBCU Students:
Do you get to go home for both Thanksgiving and Christmas?
I am curious because I mentioned to a fellow HBCU mom that my son was coming home this year for both holidays. She went on about what a "waste" of time and money that was and she also said that MOST college kids do not and that I was spoiling my child...
I could not imagine not having our family together for Thanksgiving...
We are actually planning on going to the Bayou Classic with another family this year to show our support.
What do you get to do? Surely going home for both is not being spoiled right?
... She went on about what a "waste" of time and money that was and she also said that MOST college kids do not and that I was spoiling my child...
I don't say this often, but she is a cheap **** bytch! Seriously tho... I only left town for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Spring Break (would've preferred Cancun but eh...), but maybe I'm just spoiled.
How much is the plane ticket from wherever your son goes? I always thought it was funny that freshman year this Cali girl flew home from Howard for a 2-day weekend.
I'm in Atlanta now, so if I don't show up for holidays, I'm pretty sure a black Lexus will pull up and nab me. Heck, they work at the medical school across the street, but I'll be damned if I spend another college Spring Break/birthday in that stupid house!
yo........
I am grown................
23 years old..............
and since I work God Forsaken retail I have 2 work Day after Thanksgiving(Early Morning Sales) and Christmas Eve so if I go home...........it'll be a waste of energy and gas.............
because I dont wanna have 2 go home and turn around and come RIGHT back...........
and after I get my house next year...........
I STILL wont go home............
Hell last year my mom came 2 my apartment and cooked Thanksgiving on that wednesday since it was my birthday...........
besides...............I dont like tha "Fakeness" of family get 2gethers when U cant do that any other time of the year except when people die.........smh
i live about 3 hrs driving distance from hampton so u bet your sweet biffy i'm goin home...
with no car and no money it would be pointless NOT to go home, especially for major holidays like thanksgiving and christmas.
spring break, though, i hope to be off at a beach somewhere. dun want to go home for spring break, that's tacky
CMOB:
(wow...those initials :grin
That mom is kinda bitter too. She always been "evil" to her child who works like a modern day **** to "do" Howard.
My "boo" goes coast to coast but, if we go to the Bayou Classic then we would meet in Houston where the Classic will be this year.
It's all expensive and priceless no matter where we meet.
I just enjoy having baby-boy home for the holidays. My hubby likes having him home too despite his questions of "how much is this gonna cost us?"
The night of Thanksgiving our son always goes into the garage and helps me pull out boxes, and boxes of Christmas decorations and holiday dishes, glasses, music, clothing and so on.
The day after we head to San Francisco and he points out things at Niketown and Nordstorms/Macy's that he would like under the tree. Since he got older his list has shrunk but his wishes have grown($).
That night he hooks up with his other Cali friends...more of my wonderful kids... who come home and they go out for the next two days. Sunday we hit the church house and off to the airport for him.
Spring Break is his thing...He did Florida last year (a ROYAL mess). He does not want to do THAT again so I do not know what he will do in'06.
I'm from Florida, and YES, I am going home for Thanksgiving, even though it's for a few days...and of course I'm goin home for Christmas break...
you bet your **** i'm goin right down 85 south to the 485 beltway to get home for some home-cookin... it's only an hour and change away.... so yea... when i start driving again and get a whip, i'll be back down there quite often
