I got a letter yesterday saying that housing has reached capacity. And I feel some type of way about that because I have been on the Office of Residence Life's ****, and now I'm a freshman and I'm not even sure if I can go if I don't have a place to go. I'll be robbed of the dorm experience JUST because they decided they wanted to respond when they FELT LIKE IT. Lately Howard has really been pissing me off and I haven't even STARTED THERE yet. I'm starting to have regrets about paying that enrollment fee.But yeah anyways, any recommendations on where I could stay that isn't costly, but isn't in a bad neighborhood? I guess I'm gonna stick it out because HU is still my dream school, but I swear I feel like choking whoever is in charge of all of this.
I can understand that you are really upset and all but you need to understand that Howard in going through a lot and yeah its not cool but we gotta make do. I am not saying that it is okay for them to do this to you but there are a lot of circumstances to take into consideration which you will see next year. The neighborhood near Howard and Meridian is not as bad as it seems. A lot of single white females live here and run with their boxers all day and night.
I am looking for an investment property to buy right now so I can give you a few tips. You can check apartment listings in washington d.c just by putting that in your search engine. You are looking for property in the Ledroit Park, Bloomindale, Shaw, U Street Market.Zips codes like 20059,20001. Anything NE might be a little too far for you especially as a freshman. Join all the social networking sites such as Myspace and facebook... and put yourself out there that you are looking for a roommate.
I don't know if they still have work for housing but see if you can do anything in the mean time. Ask if they have a waiting list or something too.
Residence Life - Off-Campus Housing - Howard University
Thats the link to the off campus housing list with some good properties.
Howard University also has apartments at UTC. Its a train ride but they are nice.

Nah, that's unacceptable. If you were accepted and paid your money on time you should have a place to stay. Sounds like Residence Life dropped the ball on that. If you decide you still want to go to Howard, you need to continue to stay on them....rooms become available everyday because not everyone who is accpepted or pays their money shows up.
I dont recommend freshmen stay off campus at all.
Yeah but not everything goes as planned so I am giving her the other option if she does decide to go.
There are a lot of rooms that are off line because Howard refuses to fix them ....thats not your fault but its our issue. My friends and I have written letters to residence life before and until more people do something..nothing will done to fix it.
If you call and ask them about the off line room situation and they lie and say no....trust me its true because there are two rooms on 4th floor wheatley that flooded this year and will be empty when you arrive in the fall!
you can email me @ berickett@yahoo.com and I will see if I could put you in touch with some people who can help!

They had a few empty rooms in the Towers and Meridian when I used to live there, so that is definitely true.
Woww. So how does off-campus housing work? Do you pay like a monthly rent or something?
Usually off campus housing is completely seperate from the university. It's basically like having an apartment....so yes, one would have to pay rent every month.
I'm not too sure how UTC works...
